Hello RCA!
Today we ask you to participate in a Labor Day walk-in to honor May Day, a tradition rooted in the 1886 Haymarket Affair, when workers advocating for an eight-hour workday were met with violence and injustice during a Chicago strike. This moment became a powerful symbol of the ongoing struggle for fair working conditions and workers’ rights. By recognizing May Day, we stand in solidarity with those who came before us and reaffirm our collective commitment to dignity, equity, and safe working conditions for all workers.
During challenging times, the importance of why labor organizing is critical is clear. In a time of budget deficits, RIFs, and other difficult decisions, this is the moment to display solidarity in fighting for all—our students, our communities, and ourselves.
