Ridgefield Community Gleaners Association

Ridgefield Community Gleaners Association We are an all-volunteer nonprofit whose mission is to provide fresh produce to families in need in the Ridgefield area.

We work with donor individuals to gather produce which might otherwise go unused and supply nutritious food to those less fortunate in our community of Ridgefield, Washington. Our volunteers harvest or pick up produce from local gardens and fruit trees and bring produce to the Ridgefield Family Resource Center. We also purchase produce throughout the year from donated funds. In times of great abun

dance, we donate produce to other local food distribution nonprofits including Neighbors Helping Neighbors and the Clark County Food Bank.

The Ridgefield Family Resource Center is running low on shopping/grocery bags. These are a huge help to the crew at RFRC and the families they support. Extra shopping bags - paper, plastic, reusable - are all great and can be dropped at the the Resource Center during Monday, Wednesday and Thursday opening hours or by contacting the Resource Center to arrange a good time.

Sending out a huge thank you to everyone who helped make this event fun and successful. Thanks to our hosts, the Ridgefield Community Library, our Gleaners Association volunteers, the Reflector, and especially to all our wonderful participants who rolled up their sleeves and dived into the frosting! Some of the creations were truly courageous and outrageous.

Here is a snap of the Reflector article showcasing the people's choice selections.

We hope you are planning your Gingerbread creation for Hometown Celebration.
Any Gingerbread recipe can work for a making a Gingerbread house, castle or wild creation. We like to use a "construction gingerbread" recipe since it's tougher and stands up better in general. Here's one that works, but you can search the interwebs and pick one you like.

Gingerbread that is sturdy enough to make any kind of gingerbread structure you can imagine, but also tasty enough that snacking on scraps is a delight.

Food insecurity in our community is a year round challenge for many Ridgefield families. Harvest season is nearly over in our garden and I imagine for most gardens around town but need continues.

Ridgefield Gleaners purchases about 9000 pounds of fresh produce each year which is distributed to Ridgefield families through the Ridgefield Family Resource Center(RFRC). Thankfully, RFRC also receives weekly produce contributions from generous area businesses and families. Nearly all of their produce is distributed each week, so great is the need.

Ridgefield Gleaners depends on donor support. If our mission appeals to you, please consider reaching out through our FB page or our web page - both have contact information.

We are volunteers who gather fruits and vegetables from local gardens and purchase produce from local stores to support families in need through the Ridgefield Family Resource Center.

Ridgefield Gleaners would love to collect fresh garden produce and fruit for Ridgefield Families in need.

We are starting to see fruit dropping from trees around town and many gardens going unharvested.

If you have fruit trees that won't be picked and no time to deal with garden produce please consider contacting us.
