The Ridgefield Park Fourth of July Citizens Committee prepares for the day's events months ahead of time. Many organizations, schools, churches and families also plan for the day's activities. Invitations are sent to organizations in and outside the community to participate. Emergency Service Units prepare for every possible occurrence so that residents and visitors to the Village can relax and en
joy the day. The Mayor and Commissioners welcome all to our Village for these events. During the day, decorated homes and businesses are judged and prizes awarded. Our day begins at 7:30 am at Euclid Ave. and Mt. Vernon St. with the reading of the Declaration of Independence and then at 7:45, the Flag Raising Ceremony by the Boy and Girl Scouts. Fire Department and Emergency Units present their personnel and equipment for inspection. The Baby & Youth Parade, first of two parades, begins at 9am at Poplar St. and Euclid Ave. Honor students lead the parade. This parade consists of village and visiting children, who walk, ride in decorated carriages, elaborate floats or personally decorated bicycles. You will see red, white, blue and lots of patriotism on this day. Prizes are awarded and a grand time is had by all. The Civic Parade steps off promptly at 11:30 at Preston St. and Hudson Ave.. A Grand Marshal, selected from our community, leads the parade. Fraternal and village organizations, youth and sporting associations, bands and visitors march with pride. Village residents and visitors have enjoyed this event for over a century. Thousands participate and even more enjoy this magnificent parade from the sidelines.
