Ridgefield Park 4th of July Committee

Ridgefield Park 4th of July Committee The Ridgefield Park Fourth of July Parade and Celebration, founded in 1894 is one of the oldest parades in the United States, and the oldest in New Jersey.

The Ridgefield Park Fourth of July Citizens Committee prepares for the day's events months ahead of time. Many organizations, schools, churches and families also plan for the day's activities. Invitations are sent to organizations in and outside the community to participate. Emergency Service Units prepare for every possible occurrence so that residents and visitors to the Village can relax and en

joy the day. The Mayor and Commissioners welcome all to our Village for these events. During the day, decorated homes and businesses are judged and prizes awarded. Our day begins at 7:30 am at Euclid Ave. and Mt. Vernon St. with the reading of the Declaration of Independence and then at 7:45, the Flag Raising Ceremony by the Boy and Girl Scouts. Fire Department and Emergency Units present their personnel and equipment for inspection. The Baby & Youth Parade, first of two parades, begins at 9am at Poplar St. and Euclid Ave. Honor students lead the parade. This parade consists of village and visiting children, who walk, ride in decorated carriages, elaborate floats or personally decorated bicycles. You will see red, white, blue and lots of patriotism on this day. Prizes are awarded and a grand time is had by all. The Civic Parade steps off promptly at 11:30 at Preston St. and Hudson Ave.. A Grand Marshal, selected from our community, leads the parade. Fraternal and village organizations, youth and sporting associations, bands and visitors march with pride. Village residents and visitors have enjoyed this event for over a century. Thousands participate and even more enjoy this magnificent parade from the sidelines.

Introducing our 2026 4th of July Parade Grand Marshall - Milo Randolph Henderson
Milo was born October 19, 1939 and is a graduate from
Albright College. It was there where he met and married his former wife, Mary
Sue. Upon graduating in 1961, they moved to Ridgefield Park where they rented
the downstairs of a two-family home on Arthur Street where they enjoyed
watching the construction of I-80 behind their home. They purchased a home on
Highland Place in 1965 where they raised their children.
Milo commuted to NYC and worked at Equitable Insurance and later taking a job
with Humble Oil Company. He ultimately landed at Mooney General Paper
Company where he was a Comptroller for 28 years, retiring in 2004.
At age 26, Milo ran for President of the Ridgefield Park Board of Education and
won. He was the youngest BOE President they ever had. Milo was a member of
St. Mary’s Episcopal Church on Preston St. and Euclid Ave. where he served as an
Usher and Lay reader.
Other organizations and committees that Mr. Henderson participated in were:
 Notary for Bergen County for 30 years
 Volunteer at Holy Name Hospital in the ER and the Geriatric Floor

Milo has cherished each Fourth of July in Ridgefield Park for 65 years. He shares
it with his 5 children, 15 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren. Like so many
residents, the holiday is a time of family gathering and celebration, annual family
photos and memories. He is very proud to be part of “The Village”. He has seen
our Village grow, watched it evolve, and remains loyal and proud to be part of a
place that is so very special.
