We still have a few spots open for the CLMRG Summer Class. It starts next Tuesday (Jun 9th) so if this was on you “to do” list and you forgot to sign up, now is the time to do it to ensure you get in. Ask anyone who has taken this class. It is an amazing opportunity and one of the ways CLMRG helps give back to the community. The sign-up fee covers CLMRG’s expenses. This class is only taught once a year and well worth it. Sign up now to secure your spot.

The China Lake Mountain Rescue Group (CLMRG) would like to thank the WACOM Thrift Store for their generous donation to CLMRG. Our organization as well as many others were selected by the WACOM Thrift Store to be awarded funds at their Spring Distribution of Funds. This contribution allows CLMRG to continue our primary mission of search and rescue of lost or injured persons as well as our secondary mission of teaching wilderness safety to the public. CLMRG also provides ‘Lost but Found’ presentations in our local schools and other organizations when asked. The ‘Lost but Found’ presentation teaches kids what to do if they get lost in the wilderness.

On Thursday May 7 at 1:06pm, volunteers with the China Lake Mountain Rescue Group (CLMRG) were activated by the Kern County Sheriff’s Office (KCSO) to join the response to a downed aircraft in the El Paso range of eastern Kern County that also spawned a large brush fire. Twelve CLMRG and three Desert SAR volunteers responded and arrived at the operation’s command post just east of Robbers Roost. After waiting for the BLM fire crews and aircraft to suppress the Canyon Fire in the area around the incident site, a KCSO helicopter transported most of the CLMRG team to a drop off location just outside the burn scar. The remainder of the CLMRG team and additional equipment was transported by KCSO UTVs over difficult terrain to a location close to the incident site. After the incident response was completed, the CLMRG team and several KCSO personnel began the long hike back to the command post late in the night. A big thank you to the Kern County Desert SAR team for bringing additional UTVs to meet us on the long hike back and transporting us along with our gear back to the command post. Our hearts are with the families of those lost in this incident and are grateful we could assist in returning them to their loved ones.
