🌟 Empowering Future Leaders on ! 🌟

At Samuel Ready Scholarships, we believe that a high-quality education should be accessible to all young people and our organization exists to open doors for a special group of young women in Baltimore. This year, 26 Samuel Ready Scholars are attending: The Bryn Mawr School, Friends School of Baltimore, Garrison Forest School, Roland Park Country School and St. Paul’s School for Girls.

The cost of an independent school education is a significant barrier for many families and each year we have more qualified scholarship applicants than we have the funding to support. On this day of giving, please consider a gift to Samuel Ready Scholarships and support our next generation of learners and leaders.

Thank you for your support! 💖

Happy Founder’s Day! Today, we celebrate the legacy of Samuel Ready, a wealthy Baltimore businessman, born in 1789. Samuel Ready wanted to provide educational opportunities for the young women of Baltimore. This led to the creation of the Samuel Ready School, which opened on November 1, 1887 with just five girls. While the school's doors closed in 1977, its mission lives on through Samuel Ready Scholarships, Inc.

We continue to honor Samuel Ready's vision by funding scholarships for academically promising young women to attend five of Baltimore's top independent schools. Join us in celebrating the past while investing in the future of our scholars.

Even with tuition covered by Samuel Ready Scholarships, families face numerous out-of-pocket expenses related to a child’s education. Day-to-day costs, such as a cafeteria account, and one-off expenses, such as fees related to an academic field trip, can add up.

The McAdam Fund, named for a former Samuel Ready School teacher, offers our scholars funding for non-tuition academic expenses.

⭐️ALUMNA SPOTLIGHT: Deana Frank

Deana Frank had options when she was considering where to attend middle school, but her family knew any decision would come down to affordability.

“Getting the full scholarship from Samuel Ready was a big difference maker,” she said of how she ended up at Friends School of Baltimore in sixth grade.

Since that decision, Deana has spent nearly two decades deeply connected to Samuel Ready – first, for seven years as a scholar and, more recently, as a member of the board for more than a decade. Those dual connections, and her own professional background, give her a unique perspective on the organization and the families it supports.

We are pleased to announce that Beth Knapp has joined the Samuel Ready Scholarships Board of Trustees, bringing years of valuable education experience to our organization. Beth is an English teacher at the Gilman School, the Upper School Community, Inclusion and Equity Coordinator, and the Co-Director of the Gilman’s Penn Fellows Program, which is the University of Pennsylvania’s Independent School Teaching Residency program. Previously, Beth served as the Director of Gilman’s Finney-Greene Program, which provides wraparound student support services for more than 30 Gilman students annually. We are grateful to have Beth join our board!

“I am so inspired by the work that Samuel Ready does, and I'm excited to learn more about the schools and the scholars that SRSI serves. I know how important small class sizes, close-knit communities, and robust extracurriculars are to students, and I hope to help in some small way to make independent schools more accessible for amazing scholars in Baltimore.”
