We are very sad to report that due to her medical issues and condition at 9:30am this morning Richard Brooker, Cheney's handler, made the toughest decision he had to make for her and followed the recommendation of the Vet staff to have her euthanized so she would not have to suffer any longer. This is a loss not only to Richard but the entire SAR community. It is always a sad time when we loose a ...valuable resource, and team member, like Cheney who loved to work and loved to 'make the find' at the end of the trail. Our prayers and thougths are with Richard at this time. Thank you to everyone that has been following her story over the past few days. Richard had reported that most of the on duty Vet staff came into the room to witness and pay their respects. She will be cremated in Columbia on Monday.

After more than 10 years, dozens of searches, 40,000+ Kidz Kardz Child ID's, 10,000+ Digital Fingerprints, numerous Makin' Trax programs and more the Shawn Hornbeck Foundation has decided to end its operations. Two weeks ago the family has decided that it would be best to close the foundation as they did not have the required time and resources to continue the foundation as they believed it should be in order to provide the best services possible. With the closing of the foundation it also ends the chapter on the Hornbeck Search and Rescue Team. The members of HSAR have decided that they wished to continue the mission that the foundation started and have formed a completely new team, the Missouri Valley Search and Rescue Team ( facebook.com/movalsar ...we invite you to check us out and LIKE us there as well! ). This new team will expand on several programs and search and rescue offerings that will still be free to Law Enforcement and other emergency service agencies. You can find out more about our new team by visiting our 'old' website address at: sarteam.com . This is an exciting new chapter in our history and are looking forward to the new adventure before us!

Missouri Valley Search and Rescue Team, based in the St. Louis, MO provides FREE Search and Rescue services in both MO and IL. We can only be activated by contact from Law Enforcement or another Agency Having Jurisdiction over the missing person case.

Members of SHF wish everyone a Happy and Safe Halloween! Please remember to use caution this evening when the little ones are out trick or treating. For safety reasons we greatly encourage everyone that will be going out this evening to do so in groups, we do also recommend going with an adult for supervision, and never...and we do mean NEVER by yourself! Think safety!

As hard as it is to believe, it has now been 5 years since Shawn and Ben were found and returned home to their loving families! We continue to wish both boys and their families all of the success and happiness they deserve. We also wish to take a moment and ask all to continue to think of and support all of those families with still missing loved ones. With your help we can try to help help bring ALL missing loved ones home where they belong!
