EXCEL (Early eXperience in Childhood Education and Learning) provides developmental screenings for children birth through five years of age using the tool known as the Ages and Stages Questionnaire (ASQ). This tool will establish a baseline score to determine if a child has any developmental delays or disabilities. If a delay appears we refer the family to the appropriate community agencies in Way
ne and Union counties that can help their child achieve developmental milestones. EXCEL provides in home screenings to all Wayne, Fayette, and Union County children from birth through 5 years of age who are referred to our program. We go into a child's natural environment (home, daycare, preschool or childcare provider) to perform the Ages and Stages Questionnaire (ASQ). We also answer questions from the family and refer them to appropriate community agencies in Wayne and Union Counties. We provide the parents and child with a resource bag that includes age appropriate books for the child. We provide the parents with a resource book that contains drawings, songs, finger plays and science experiments that the parent can use to aid in their child's development. We offer ongoing services and will conduct another Ages and Stages Questionnaire (ASQ) in 2 to 6 month increments or sooner if the parent becomes alarmed about any developmental issues. Parents are encouraged to call for any information they may need or to ask any questions. We give parents the tools and confidence to help their children to be better
prepared to enter kindergarten. If a child shows any delays in the areas of Communication, Gross Motor, Fine Motor, Problem Solving or Personal-Social skills we refer the child to the appropriate community organizations in Wayne and Union Counties that will best fit the child and family's needs. The objective of our program is to have children better prepared to enter kindergarten or the Life Skills programs offered by our local school corporations.
