Good day. We will now present m.CDM’s domestic news.
Today’s main stories include: revolutionary forces seizing Yay Pyar Village and Kokkolsu in Pauk Township; the arrest of a man accused of posing as a PDF member, attacking a couple, and ra**ng the wife; the bombing of Seitha village hospital in Shwegu Township, killing three civilians; and remarks by the U.S. Secretary of State that Washington is seeking ways to change China’s heavy influence over Myanmar’s military junta.
In Magway Region, revolutionary joint forces reportedly captured the Yay Pyar police station near the border of Pauk and Myaing townships on June 3 and continued clearance operations on June 4. Fighting also continued around villages controlled by pro-junta Pyu Saw Htee militias. At the same time, junta columns have been advancing through Myaing Township, burning homes and forcing residents from at least several villages to flee. Resistance forces also attacked Pyu Saw Htee bases in Pauk Township, and a pro-junta militia leader admitted on Telegram that Kokkolsu village had fallen despite junta reinforcements and air support.
In Natmauk Township, Magway Region, local defense forces said they had arrested Thein Than Soe, who allegedly posed as a PDF member after attacking a couple in Gway Pin Village on June 1. He is accused of slashing the husband’s throat and ra**ng the wife. The husband survived. According to Natmauk Pa Ka Pha, the suspect later posted on TikTok claiming he had killed “dalan” informers and challenged resistance forces. Local defense authorities said he is now in custody and will be prosecuted under the law.
The PDF military headquarters also reported that in battles across Magway Region during May and early June, 31 junta soldiers were killed, 52 wounded, and 18 captured, including Major Aung Phyo Wai and Captain Pyae Sone Aung. The PDF said 43 clashes took place in the region, including ambushes against large junta columns entering Gangaw District and fighting in Thayet and Mindon areas.
In Tanintharyi Region, Kawthaung Township defense forces said they attacked a junta column that had been looting food and valuables from local plantations. Around 200 troops from Kawthaung and Khamaukgyi had entered the Maliwan and Maran areas in three columns. A clash on June 1 reportedly killed four junta soldiers and wounded 14 others, including an officer, while local defense forces reported no casualties.
In southern Chin State, junta troops advancing toward Mindat reportedly arrested and killed a 10th-grade student and a man in his 60s in Htin Chaung Village, while also burning more than 10 homes. Fighting has intensified about 10 miles from Mindat town, and local groups say the number of displaced people has risen to around 17,000.
In Kachin State, a hospital in Seitha Village, Shwegu Township, was bombed by a junta fighter jet on the morning of June 4. Local sources said the aircraft circled and bombed the area at least three or four times, hitting hospital and administrative buildings. At least two people were initially reported dead, while other sources said the death toll may have reached three. Several hospital buildings and motorcycles were destroyed.
In Myaing Township, at least seven villages have been forced to flee due to advancing junta columns. Troops from Myaing Industrial Zone No. 2 reportedly entered Wet Poke Village on June 4, burned at least four homes, and fired 60mm mortar rounds at nearby villages. Local groups also reported that troops seized or burned peanut seeds during the planting season, worsening the hardship for farmers.
The Chin People’s Union/Chin People’s Army urged the public not to believe rumors about fighting in Mindat and Kanpetlet. The group said junta forces have launched offensives with around 2,000 troops since mid-May, supported by fighter jets and Y-12 aircraft, while CPA-led allied forces continue resisting. It urged people to rely only on official statements.
The Mon Blood Army held a ceremony on June 3 to welcome new revolutionary recruits. Its leaders explained the group’s political stance and objectives, including youth leadership in politics and military affairs, stronger cooperation with revolutionary allies, and building trust between the army and the people.
APHR, the ASEAN Parliamentarians for Human Rights, announced that it will continue cooperating with the Steering Council for the Emergence of a Federal Democratic Union, or SCEF. In a message to the Union Parliament meeting held on June 1, APHR said SCEF represents an important step toward an inclusive, people-centered federal democracy in Myanmar. It also expressed deep concern over the humanitarian crisis, noting that more than 22 million people need assistance.
During a visit to Canada, an SCEF delegation met scholars working on Myanmar affairs at the University of Toronto. The delegation included NUG Foreign Minister Daw Zin Mar Aung and representatives from Karenni and Karen organizations. They also met Bob Rae, Canada’s former special envoy to Myanmar, and discussed federalism, humanitarian aid, and international relations.
The Political Prisoners Network Myanmar marked its third anniversary online on June 1, with participation from local and international partners, interim government representatives, ethnic organizations, and invited guests. Speakers reviewed the network’s three years of work and discussed ways to strengthen future activities.
Finally, U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio said the United States is looking for ways to change the situation in which China holds strong influence over Myanmar’s junta. Speaking at a U.S. Senate budget hearing on June 2, Rubio responded to Senator Mitch McConnell’s questions on U.S. policy toward Myanmar and implementation of the Burma Act. Rubio said U.S. policy is not neutral and that Washington prefers to engage with a democratically elected government, but acknowledged that China’s influence over Myanmar is very strong and difficult to counter. He added that the U.S. is seeking ways to create meaningful change.
