GROUNDED IN GRATITUDE
Colossians 2:6–7

Our Homecoming theme this year was “Grounded in Gratitude.”

Colossians reminds us to stay rooted in Christ and to let our lives overflow with thankfulness. Just like strong roots help a tree grow, our faith keeps us grounded as we grow!

So, young people, we have a question for YOU:

💭 What are you grateful for?

Your family?
Your friends?
Your church?
Your teachers?
Something God has done for you?

Tell us in the comments! 👇🏽

Let’s see how much gratitude we can grow!

Youth Ministry Moment: What Is Homecoming Sunday?

We celebrated Homecoming this past Sunday, but do you know why Homecoming is special in the Black church?

Years ago, many Black families moved away from their hometowns looking for new opportunities. Homecoming became a time to return to their home churches, reconnect with family and friends, worship together, share a meal, and remember those who came before them.

Think of it as a big church family reunion!

Homecoming reminds us that our Black churches have been places of faith, family, strength, hope, and community for generations.

And young people, you are part of that history too! The generations before you helped build the church you have today, and now you get to help carry its faith and legacy forward.

That’s what it means to come home.

May you always make room to talk with God—not only when you’re afraid, confused, or need something, but when you’re happy, grateful, excited, and dreaming about your future too. May prayer become a place where you can bring your whole self: your questions, mistakes, hopes, fears, victories, and dreams. May you also learn to be still enough to listen. And as a new week begins, may you walk into it knowing that you never have to walk through life without God.

May kindness follow you everywhere you go. May you notice the person sitting alone, encourage the person having a difficult day, defend someone being treated unfairly, and use your words to heal instead of hurt. May you remember that you never fully know what another person is carrying. May God make your heart tender enough to care and courageous enough to show it. One small act of kindness can change somebody’s entire day.

May God teach you that respect is more than good manners; it is recognizing the dignity in yourself and in other people. May you learn to disagree without being cruel, to speak without tearing others down, and to listen even when you see things differently. May you respect your parents, guardians, teachers, elders, peers—and yourself. And may you have the wisdom to understand that respecting someone never requires you to tolerate mistreatment.
