The Katie Geneva Cannon Center for Womanist Leadership invites Black women who are carrying grief — whether from the loss of a loved one, a relationship, a dream, a home, a sense of safety, a community, or anything else that has left a wound to complete this brief survey. Grief takes many forms. All of it is real, and all of it matters here. Your responses will help us understand what you are carrying, what has helped, and what kinds of community and sacred space would support your healing. This survey is confidential. What are you doing this evening? Hopefully, you'll join us on Facebook or YouTube at 7:00 PM as Dr. Lakisha Lockhart hosts a Can(n)on Conversation with Dr. Melanie Hill about her new book, "Colored Women Sittin' on High: Womanist Sermonic Practice in Literature and Music."

"When a woman is denied her right to preach, bones of oppression, malice, and misogynoir make hollow sounds as they crash like splintered shards of glass, and disjointed, fragmented bones begin to fall by the wayside."

There’s a New World coming...a world of radicalized formation and revelation that honors the music of our language...Black language. Language that is rich in melody, prose, and verse, filled with purpose, liberation, inclusivity, love, justice, righteousness, and heritage.
In this language, in these sermons, and in this music, I find the Black woman preacher at the center of what I term womanist sermonic practice.
From "Colored Women Sittin’ on High: Womanist Sermonic Practice in Literature and Music" by Melanie R. Hill

Join us on Tuesday, January 13th at 7:00 PM for a Can(n)on Conversation with Dr. Hill!
