Volunteer day today- Lining the paths in the native gardens with stones. Thanks to everyone who gave hand and especially our young friend who helped us make a new children’s rock garden for playing! Go visit and see if you can find it!

Workday Update: Rescheduled for 12/13

Native Meadow Workday
The Friends of Fonticello Park and our partner, Future Habitats, need your help to line the path with rocks and mulch the meadow in the park.

*When: Saturday, December 13th, 10 am-1 pm

Meet at the Teardrop Garden

This project was funded by a Virginia Outdoors Foundation grant and installed in partnership with the City of Richmond Department of Parks, Recreation, and Community Facilities, with support from LERN (Local Ecotype Richmond Natives) and environmental studies students from Varina High School. Together, we are increasing pollinator habitat, providing food for birds and small mammals, and improving stormwater infiltration in this historic park.

Managing w**d pressure and mulching are important during the establishment phase of these meadows, so come get your hands in the soil and help these plants succeed!

Tools and gloves will be provided. Please dress in warm, comfortable clothes that you don’t mind getting dirty, and bring plenty of water.

Street parking is available along Perry Street. The park entrance is located at Perry and W 28th Streets. Meet by the teardrop garden bed, indicated in the map below.

*Note: this event will be weather permitting.

I spy snow people! Thanks for making our park more fun with your snow creations!
