Open House is TODAY! 1-4p at 1311 Westwood Ave. Come on by! Free, family-friendly and packed with fun–from farm tours and a field trip, samples and a cooking demo, we've got yard games and activities, play BINGO with 20+ community organizations to learn about, chat with the farmers who grow your food, screen print a t-shirt, walk through the labyrinth, explore the farm through a scavenger hunt, enter our raffle for Fun for a Year, and find out where you can plug into your food system. Markets are piling high with abundance this week! We're at our 8 regular markets PLUS Sunday's on farm market for Open House! Come by Northside either today from 4-5:30, or Sunday 1-4 to shop all these nutritious veggies. Produce is always available on a sliding scale from free to supporter tiers, no documentation ever necessary, and it can change week to week with your budget.

Here’s a clue to get you started on our scavenger hunt for Open House! We're Hiring!!!

The Education Associate is a part-time, temporary position for summer and fall of 2026. The Education Associate will be responsible for leading field trips for kids of all ages on our Northside and Powhatan farm sites. Field trip programming covers a variety of environmental and social science topics that complement Virginia’s SOLs. When not leading, preparing for or cleaning up from field trips, the Education Associate will help lead small groups of volunteers in seasonal farm work, give tours of the farm and assist with email communications and data entry related to student
and volunteer visitation.
The ideal candidate would be able to work the following schedule from July 6-November 15: Mon-Thurs from 8am-1pm. There is a possibility for this or a similar role to continue beyond the 2026 season.

We'll have a guided labyrinth walk with and a conversation with Patience Fielding of @ in addition to staff led experiences as well. We've got a great line up for Open House. Something for everyone! Kick the day off with community screen printing at the van- bring a t-shirt to print on, or purchase one from the merch table, next choose between a cooking demo with , or a farm tour with Shalom staff. Then take a breather with Katie from as she leads a guided walk through the labyrinth, or join a mini field trip with the Engagement Team. Finally, grab a seat in the community pavilion for a conversation with Patience Fielding from or take a stroll with the final farm tour of the day. Between those, play BINGO by meeting 24 incredible community partners, or complete our scavenger hunt for a self guided tour of the farm!
