Happy Tuesday! There's a new kid in da house! Meet Casper, he's the sweet boy from Hurley VA., and thanks to Michael Saint , Becky S Leonard and Dawn Ruhlen Carter, we were finally able to pick him up this past weekend. Michael made the first leg of the transport, where Dawn then met him Roanoke to bring to Richmond, VA.
Casper is approximately 4 years old and most likely has adrenal disease and insulinoma. Casper is seeing Dawn's vet on Thursday, for an implant and a well check. So far, Casper is enjoying his rice dig box and all sorts of toys. He has a great appetite, too. Thank you so much to these 3 folks who made this rescue possible.😊❤️❤️❤️

Happy Tuesday! In the middle of the night, sometimes I'll hear one of the ferrets make vocal sounds if they're in "distress", such as a crash from low blood sugar. Each ferret has a different alarm bell, this is a short video of Eggo, he makes a "gack" noise from nausea. I can hear it from my bedroom, he's only about 15 ft away. He's doing good, though, thank you again to everyone who sent baby food to the kiddos!❤️🥰

It's that time of year when Richmond Ferret Rescue closes from 12/01/2025 through 02/01/2026.
Visits are welcome but we don't do adoptions during Christmas time and surrenders are only taken if they're an emergency. We can recommend other shelters or FB groups if you're looking to adopt.

During the past several years, RFRL has concentrated on caring for the older, ill or terminal ferrets, we don't often have ferrets under the age of 3 years. Thankfully we have an incredible veterinarian as well as 3 backup veterinarians who help us to keep up with these older babies. I understand how excited a family would be to have a ferret under their tree for children, teenagers or grandma, but this is really not a good time to bring in a new fuzzie. The stress, strange voices, new environment, different food, will more than likely upset your new fuzzie, then when the diarrhea hits your new furby, and grandma's new white sweater is covered in nervous ferret poo, the realization you're not ready for a ferret hits a little too late.

If you have any questions, just let me know by pm or call me at 804-750-0044.
Cheers!
