🚲☀ Summer brought some great two-wheeled adventures to the Capital Trail! Girls in Gear and Girl Scouts hosted two bike clinics along the Trail, giving young riders a chance to build their skills and explore their community on two wheels! 🚴‍♀️🚴🏾‍♀️

On Earth Day, riders explored environmental stewardship along the Trail 🌱 and talked about ways they can care for our planet and local community. They also practiced route planning 🗺️ and mapped out a 4-mile ride from the James A. Buzzard River Education Center to Brown’s Island and back. 🌇

What a great way to spend the summer: riding, learning, and exploring! 🤩

A big Cap Trail thank-you to our partners at the Virginia Department of Transportation for recently repaving the parking lot at Herring Creek! 🚗🌳 And they’re not done yet. Striping will be coming soon to put the finishing touches on the lot.

Thank you, VDOT crews, for all you do to maintain the Capital Trail and make it a great place to ride, walk, run, and explore! 💚💙

We had a fantastic time partnering with OpenStreetMap and Map RVA for a recent mapping workshop to strengthen the data behind our online interactive Trail map! 🗺️

OpenStreetMap, a global, community-driven mapping platform, relies on volunteers who continually update and refine map information. 🌇 Here in Richmond, Map RVA is a group of local mapping and trail enthusiasts who work hard to keep our regional data accurate, detailed, and up-to-date. Together, their expertise and support are helping us build a more robust and reliable interactive online map for the Capital Trail, making it easier to plan a ride 🚲, find amenities 🍽, or explore the Trail 🚶🏾‍♀️.

Special thanks to smbw for hosting our group 👏🏾 and to the Bike Monday Bros for joining us to learn more and lend a hand. 🤝🏽 We’re incredibly grateful for the local expertise and collaboration that helps us keep the Capital Trail accessible, enjoyable, and well‑mapped! 🤩 Stay tuned, Trail family; exciting things to come...

🚢 Happy Community Thursday! Today, we’re sailing into Community Thursday with a stop at the Jamestown-Scotland Ferry!

Located just 0.5 miles from the eastern end of the Capital Trail in James City County, the ferry connects James City and Surry Counties with a scenic 15-minute ride across the James River. 🌅

💥 Even better? It’s FREE and operates 24 hours a day, 📅 365 days a year, including major holidays!

Some of our Summer Challenge superstars even incorporated a ferry ride into their miles this summer! 🚴‍♀️🚶🏾‍♂️ And our bikepacking crew will get to experience it firsthand during their Labor Day weekend adventure on the Trail. ⛺
