✨ Students Exploring Their Futures!

Forty-eight students from George Washington High School recently traveled to Norfolk to attend the MEAC College Fair, where they connected with representatives from colleges and universities and explored opportunities for life after high school.

Students spoke with representatives from several Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs), learning about admissions, scholarships, academic programs, and campus life. Experiences like this help students see that college and career goals are within reach.

Students also had the chance to experience the excitement of collegiate athletics by attending a MEAC women’s basketball tournament game between South Carolina State University and Howard University.

At Communities In Schools, we work to surround students with the relationships and resources they need to succeed in school and beyond. Opportunities like this help expand students’ horizons and inspire them to start planning for their futures.

Today, Communities In Schools (CIS) is bringing this message to Capitol Hill—hosting a Congressional Briefing to share new evidence on how integrated student supports drive economic opportunity nationwide.

Big news for Southside! 🎉

We’re celebrating a generous $10,000 investment into our students and schools across Southside Virginia, made possible through the Community Foundation of the Dan River Region.

This support strengthens classrooms, equips educators, and opens new opportunities for students to learn, grow, and succeed. When communities come together like this, real impact happens — not just for today, but for the future of every child served.

Thank you to the Community Foundation for believing in our schools and in the power of education to transform lives.

On March 11, 2026, we’re proud to create new opportunities for our students through partnership and community.

Communities In Schools of Virginia Southside is teaming up with the Washington Park Association to take more than 100 Southside students to the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) experience. This day is about more than attending an event — it’s about exposure to college pathways, scholarship opportunities, and helping students see what’s possible for their future.

We believe when students are supported and connected, they thrive. Together, we’re opening doors, building confidence, and investing in the next generation.

Parents, you matter more than you know.

When families stay involved, students thrive.

Helping with homework.
Asking about their day.
Showing up to events.
Creating routines at home.

Small, everyday moments make a BIG difference.

Research shows that students make more progress when they feel supported both at school and at home. And the good news? You don’t have to be perfect — just present.

Let’s work together to help every child succeed.
