Proud to be in Sacramento today in support of AB 1157 – The Affordable Rent Act 2025!

This bill strengthens tenant protections by:
• Lowering rent caps to CPI +2% (max 5%)
• Expanding coverage to more renters, including single-family homes
• Making protections permanent by removing the 2030 expiration

With rent hikes fueling California’s homelessness crisis, AB 1157 is a crucial step forward. Let’s fight for housing justice!

⚡ 24-Hour Economic Blackout – February 28 ⚡
For one day, let’s show who truly holds the power.

📅 When: Friday, February 28 | 12:00 AM - 11:59 PM
For 24 hours, we pause all spending—no shopping, no online orders, no fast food, no gas, and no purchases from major retailers. Our goal is simple: disrupt the flow of money to corporations that ignore our voices. If they don’t listen, the next blackout will be longer.

✅ What to Do Instead:
Only buy absolute essentials like food or medicine.
If you must spend, support small, local businesses.

💡 Why It Matters:
Economic pressure has always been a powerful tool for change. Just like past movements used boycotts to make history, we’re using our collective power to demand action.
📢 Spread the word. Share this message. Be ready for what comes next.

🕊️ The Richmond SSA offers heartfelt condolences to the family of Julie Perez, a dedicated presence at Council meetings and the mother of Pedie Perez. Alongside her husband, Richard, Julie fought tirelessly for justice following the 2014 shooting of their only son by Richmond police officer Wallace Jensen.
🕯️ Her legacy endures in the national movement for police accountability and in Richmond, where a portion of Spring Street was recently renamed Pedie Perez Avenue in his memory.
