The world's longest undefended border has long been a meeting place rather than a dividing line, but that distinction is being tested.

Tariffs, climate imperatives, and competing priorities have strained the relationship between the United States and Canada in ways that affect both sides of the 49th parallel.

Rt. Hon. Justin Trudeau, former Prime Minister of Canada, knows better than anyone that being a good neighbor can be harder than it looks.

Having spent a decade at the helm during some of modern history’s most consequential moments, he will offer a candid reflection of what leadership in trying times entails.

Don't miss your chance to see Trudeau live, alongside a full season of the world's most thought-provoking speakers, right here in Richmond. Renew your subscription or join The Richmond Forum community as a new subscriber. Learn more at richmondforum.org.

When we announced our 2026-2027 season, we shared the names of four speakers... and kept one a secret.

Well, the wait is over.

On November 21, 2026, The Richmond Forum will turn back time with...

Cher.

One name, 60 years, and a body of work that has touched hearts, defined generations, and stood the test of time.

Cher has sold 140 million records worldwide, won an Oscar, and become the only solo artist with a No. 1 hit in each of the last seven decades. Throughout her career, she has paved the way for women and all people to live boldly, speak their truth, and have the courage to be exactly who they are.

The fierce, unstoppable artist will share the stories, lessons, and philosophy behind a life that has never once been inhibited by what others expected.

She joins a season lineup of experts and leaders who will bring bold ideas to our stage, from the future of learning and the forces shaping our global economy, to the secrets of happiness and our neighbors to the north. We hope you will join us this season for the shared experience of big questions and meaningful conversation with a community of Richmond's most curious minds.

What does it really take to make it to the National Speech & Debate Tournament? Hear it from the students chasing that goal and the coaches helping them get there.

As Richmond prepares to host the National Tournament this June, The Richmond Forum and VPM invite you to a free screening of SPEAK and a conversation with Richmond’s own speech and debate community.

🗓 Sunday, May 3 at 2pm
📍 Virginia Museum of History & Culture
🎟 Free — register at richmondforum.org

The film follows students on their journey to the national stage, capturing the intensity, purpose, and personal stories behind their performances.

Afterward, stay for a live talk-back featuring local students on their own road to Nationals, alumni who’ve competed at the highest level, and coaches who make it all possible. They’ll reflect on the local experience behind a national moment.
