We’re helping these poor little girl pups in Playa del Carmen who were found alone on the busy street to get what they need ~ deworming, vaccines, spay. Can you help? For everything they need it will be about $150 US each. And their lives are forever changed! Thank you to our friends at for rescuing them and getting them safe! If any Canadian friends want to adopt on their Playa/Cancun/Tulum vacations soon, let us know! (Sorry they can’t go to the US bc of changed customs rules 🥲) We’d appreciate any help in chipping in for their vetting! 🥰🥰

Remember Nora? She had her second litter of pups out in Dinwiddie, just before our first round of arctic blasts in January … she’s now living a brand new life, adopted by our friend Ronda! We love having her in our circle and will@get to hang out with her often while she re-learns how to be a regular dog!

We were happy to sponsor Chaplin’s neuter last week 🐶🐶 and help out our good friend Claudia who rescued this boy from the Ruta de los Cenotes that runs between Puerto Morelos and Leona Vicario in Quintana Roo, Mexico. ‘La Ruta’ as it is known, is a long jungly road and there are always abandoned and homeless dogs along the way. There are also jaguars in this jungle, so it’s a terrible place to find yourself if you are a dog (or cat) :/ … Chaplin was very thin and needed to fatten up before his surgery, but his life is on the upswing now. ‼️‼️💜

RICHMOND, VA- Someone left this tub of 13 puppies on our porch this morning with this note. If you know who did this, PLEASE get in touch with us! They are well fed and clean, there is no chance that a mama dog ‘wasn’t around.’ No doubt she was out looking for food so she could feed THIRTEEN BABIES.
URGENT 👀👀👀
If you contact us or tell us where these puppies came from, we can go immediately and set a trap for the mama dog. She is no doubt frantically looking for them!

If you are the man who left these 13 in a bin for us this morning, PLEASE GET IN TOUCH WITH US!!
These puppies have recently been fed and cared for by a mama dog and they shouldn’t have been removed without taking her also. She was likely off trying to find food to exist.
We will come set a trap for her immediately, so they can be reunited asap. We cannot bottle feed 13 puppies!
Please get in touch with us immediately!

A true animal hero lost his life yesterday and the shelter animals in Southwest Virginia will be the most profoundly impacted by his tragic death. Chris Haverly worked extremely hard every day to transport animals from overcrowded rural shelters to partner shelters to find hope for new lives. He worked tirelessly on the ground to foster, help out shelter staff, assist with spay and neuter, and a million other thankless jobs behind the scenes. He transported animals yesterday and then died in a traffic accident on the way home.

We met Chris in person just once, about 10-11 years ago in Wise County, Virginia when we were there to try and get some dogs freed from a terrible captive hoarding situation. Since that time, we saw thousands of Facebook posts about his ongoing devoted work to get animals on the road, so they would not die in rural shelters. Few people have the dedication and grit that Chris had to save animals, and we are incredibly sorry to hear this awful news.

Many thousands of dog & cat adopters all over the eastern US have wonderful adopted family members now directly because of Chris and his tireless devotion. We send our heartfelt condolences to the animal welfare workers of Southwest Virginia, and to his family and friends.

Last Wednesday, a rescue partner pinged us with a shared post about a mama dog in Dinwiddie, VA who was roaming, very pregnant and with a badly embedded collar. We took one look at her photo and knew we’d need to go try and secure her. She had already given birth to TEN puppies last year and animal control came and took the puppies and left her behind. 🤬 And this go around, they also were not helping to save the dog. So with our partner Salem's Light, we headed down immediately with our trap to assess. The concerned neighbor said she hadn’t seen the dog in three days or so, and that she may have given birth. That began a six day effort of a ton of driving, recon, and stakeouts since we had no idea where she had stashed the puppies and there were multiple barns, empty houses and trailers around. 🥲 The clock is always ticking on us to get dogs trapped just ahead of snowstorms it seems… (🤯) and this time is no different ~ those puppies likely couldn't have survived temps this week down in the 20s, and a mega snowstorm on the way.

Mama dog's neck injury was worse than we thought and the collar has caused awful damage. We really can’t even imagine the horrible, physically miserable life she has endured - giving birth to her last large litter a year ago, scavenging alone to survive, then giving birth in frigid temps again, all while suffering in significant pain. She’s safe now, all of the seven week old puppies are safe and warm and healthy so far.

We are SOOOO relieved to have gotten them all out of the cold before it gets way worse. It’s been a very tiring week and we’ll post some updates in the coming days 🙂

Please consider a year end donation if you can! It will help us get some spay and neuter campaigns up and running for next year, and allow us to help dogs and cats in critical need in the US and Mexico (you can earmark your donation for location preference, just let us know). Last year, we sponsored sterilizations in Mexico (Tulum, Playa del Carmen, Cancun, Merida) at our various own campaigns and helped others out too, hundreds of dogs and cats were helped to have much better lives because of our sponsorship and your help. In the US (Richmond, VA), we also sponsored hundreds of TNR cat surgeries (many cats we trapped ourselves) and helped out multiple needy families with dog spay and neuter. Of course we are always on the scene to trap lost dogs in our local area who desperately need our help, and coordinate with animal control and community helpers as much as we can. We can't do it without you, please chip in with a year end donation and help us help them!
Have a safe and happy New Year, everyone!
