Gopher snakes live in almost every California ecosystem, including right along our coast!

This one was spotted while hiking yesterday. When we see snakes outside, the best thing to do is to admire them from afar!

New animal ambassador - this 17 year old gopher snake came from Creepy Critters Rescue today! She'll be joining our Neighborhood Snakes program this fall!

We see lots of reptiles outside of our facility - this one was in the driveway yesterday.
We stay safe sharing space with rattlesnakes by always knowing where we put our hands and feet when we are outside. If we see a rattlesnake, we give them lots of space - that's all that's needed for us all to stay safe!

Laurel, the garter snake obtained serious injuries when she was caught by both a cat, and a glue trap while eating slugs...

Laurel, the garter snake obtained serious injuries when she was caught by both a cat, and a glue trap while eating slugs in someone's garden. A local snake removal helped get her free of the glue and rehabilitated her for many months before she came to us.

Garter snakes are one of the most common snakes found in the Bay Area, so they are an important part of our animal ambassador team teaching students about our neighborhood snakes.
