This quote helped me understand that people are not all starting from the same place, and that systems and circumstances shape opportunities long before hard work enters the picture.

By Juneteenth, we want to raise $19,000 to continue building that kind of community across Richmond’s Southside.

I used to think everyone started from the same place.

My family’s story was one of upward mobility.
My great-grandparents immigrated from Italy, worked hard, and built a better life for the generations that followed.

So for a long time, I believed hard work alone created opportunity.

But as I got older, I started realizing the story wasn’t that simple.

By Juneteenth, we want to raise $19,000 to continue building that kind of community across Richmond’s Southside.

Before I had the words—for dyslexia,
I just knew the world wasn’t built with me in mind.
So I learned to speak up.

To take up space—even when it felt like there wasn’t any.
Now—that’s the work.

At Virginia Community Voice, we’re building spaces where people are seen,
heard, and know they belong—without having to prove it.

By Juneteenth, we’re raising $19,000 to build more spaces like this
across Richmond’s Southside.

Being supported is one thing— but being truly seen? That’s where justice lives.

Justice is personal for me because I’ve lived what it feels like to watch the people you love be underserved.

As an immigrant, I grew up watching my parents work incredibly hard to build a life in a country that often did not make space for families like ours.

They worked, sacrificed, and did everything they were supposed to do—
yet there were still systems that felt confusing, inaccessible, or simply not built with us in mind.

Language barriers.
Lack of information.
The feeling that your voice doesn’t carry the same weight.

I do this work because no family should feel invisible.
Everyone deserves dignity, fairness, and the opportunity to truly thrive.

By Juneteenth, we want to raise $19,000 to continue building that kind of community across Richmond’s Southside.

When I was 19, I was called into a police station
and pressured to confess to a crime I didn’t commit.

I never want anyone to feel that powerless again.

That experience changed me.

It’s why I believe in the liberation of people pushed to the margins—
and why I’m committed to building community power, voice, and leadership.

At Virginia Community Voice, we’re building community power—so people on the margins are not just impacted by decisions, but shaping them.

By Juneteenth, we want to raise $19,000 to continue building that kind of community across Richmond’s Southside.

Juneteenth is a reminder— that freedom was delayed.

And that justice… has always required action.

Because freedom isn’t given.
It’s built—through people, through truth, through community.

We believe justice begins with listening.
With trusting that the people closest to the challenges… are closest to the solutions.

Today, we’re launching our Juneteenth campaign—
a month of stories from our team about voice, power, and what it means to build something different.

We’re raising $19,000 by June 19 to continue our work across Richmond’s Southside.

If you missed it in April, it's happening againg in May!

Our team member Flo, is hosting this incredible event - it's an opportunity to strengthen community together.

In a world that often pulls us into urgency and isolation, creating space to share art invites us to slow down, listen deeply, and be fully with one another. Through storytelling, music, poetry, and visual expression, people are able to show up as they are—seen, heard, and valued.

Sunday’s at 5pm- May 24th - June 21st

Now Introducing: VACV Consulting Services.

Same powerful methodology, new name.

Our Blueprint Services are now VACV Consulting Services—grounded in the Community Voice Blueprint, the methodology that guides all of our work.

We offer two interconnected approaches that work together to create lasting, values-aligned change:

Community-Led Engagement Consulting
We support organizations in moving beyond surface-level outreach toward authentic, community-centered decision-making—where power is shared and community voice shapes outcomes.

Workplace Culture Consulting
We partner with organizations to build internal cultures that reflect the same values they bring to community work—centering accountability, transparency, and human-first practices.
