Go Warriors!

Congratulations to Henrico High School graduate Rashida Jones, who started today as the new president of MSNBC, becoming the first Black woman to run a major cable news network! Rashida steps into the new role after previously leading NBC News and MSNBC's breaking news and major events coverage as a senior vice president. We asked if there was anything she’d like to say to the folks back home:

“I often think back to walking the campus of Henrico High School where my teachers pushed me toward academic excellence and emboldened my passion to lead through my work. I have Henrico County Public Schools to thank for inspiring me to achieve goals beyond my dreams.”

Best of luck, Rashida! (And special thanks to Rashida’s mother, Alice Adkins, for helping us recognize this special occasion!)

I want to bring your attention to Pathways to Science, a free summer residential experience for high school Latinas in Virginia. The purpose of this program funded by the National Science Foundation is to engage with Latinas who are interested in STEM early in their high school career with the goal of encouraging them to pursue a college education and career in STEM. Our ultimate goal is to increase the number of Latina STEM professionals in VA.

Young women who are chosen for Pathways to Science receive the following benefits:
• A free, weeklong summer residential camp at Randolph-Macon College, where they engage with other Latinas with a passion for STEM, live in our dorms and learn about life on a college campus.
• A $2,500 scholarship to the college of their choice upon completion of the summer program.
• Field trips to our partner organizations the Science Museum of Virginia, Maymont, and Lewis Ginter Botanical Garden as well as businesses in the community to see STEM in action and meet women leaders in STEM careers
• Many additional benefits!

The application is open and can be accessed on our website. Please feel free to share this e-mail or direct any students who you think might be interested to apply or to visit our website, https://pathwaystoscience.com/, to complete an application. We would love to have them apply!

Come experience what college life is like while learning about STEM topics that could lead to an exciting and engaging career! This FREE program is designed for Latinas who are rising high school sophomores, although all high-school aged girls can apply. Participants attend for free and earn a schol...

Hello! My name is Wesley Fiasco. I am a sophomore at Glen Allen High School. I am one of the organizers for Henrico County Public Schools Diversify Our Narrative. Diversify

Our Narrative is a national student-led grassroots organization working to diversify high school education through English curriculum. I am reaching out today to ask for your help. We currently have a goal of 1000 signatures for the Henrico County Public School

Diversify Our Narrative petition. Once we reach our signature goal, we will be able to present it to the HCPS school board. I’ve included two links down below. The first one is for the petition itself to sign and share. The second link includes resources pertaining

to diversity in education along with the Diversify Our Narrative website.
