Virginia is aiming to end the war on drugs by promoting more legal use for adults and implementing common-sense policies for young people. When youth (under 21) are involved with alcohol or cannabis, the consequences can fall into two general categories: law enforcement or supportive services.

Law enforcement refers to punitive actions such as juvenile detention, fines, or restrictions that may even prevent youth from accessing rehabilitation services.

Supportive services focus on providing help rather than punishment and may include actions like verbal warnings, referrals to social services, mentoring programs, or other outpatient support for both the youth and their family.

In the survey, you will be asked questions about what types of consequences you believe young people should face when involved with alcohol or cannabis.

Big news, Virginia: automatic record sealing is here.
If you have an old ma*****na possession charge, including non-convictions, deferred dismissals or convictions, your record will be sealed automatically. You don’t need to file anything, pay any fees or hire a lawyer.

Some misdemeanor convictions are eligible too, like misdemeanor larceny, certain types of trespass, possession with intent to distribute ma*****na and disorderly conduct. To qualify, you can’t have any new convictions for seven years after the original one.

The Joint Commission to Oversee the Transition of the Commonwealth into a Cannabis Retail Market meets Monday Sep. 21, and youth protections are up. Come testify, sign up virtually, and watch to support youth protections for children.

Real protection for Virginia’s kids rests on four pillars: reinvestment, decriminalization, regulation, and education.

Legalization belongs to us. And on Wednesday, Richmond proved it.

We filled Sound of Music, shared our stories, and signed The People’s Bill, not one written by a legislature, but one written by the community that survived the drug war and organized for years to get here.

Huge thanks to Lori Koch and The Homegrowers Club of Virginia, Sound of Music, Josh Rickey, 13 Plants, and Abuelita’s for helping make this night real. And to the CannaJustice Coalition, thank you for the years of work that got this legislation across the finish line.

To everyone who showed up: this is yours. The work isn’t finished, equity, licensing, and protecting small growers are still ahead, but we celebrate every win along the way.
