Enrichmond Foundation

Enrichmond Foundation For over 30 years, the Enrichmond Foundation has supported Richmond governmental agencies by activating citizen involvement, education, and fundraising.

For the last twenty-seven years, we have enacted our mission by supporting the Department of Parks, Recreation and Cultural Arts through citizen involvement, education, and fundraising. The most prevailing of these services is acting as an umbrella non-profit organization for over one hundred volunteer groups and special initiatives- or ‘Friends’ groups. Our partners include community and civic as

sociations, outdoor enthusiasts, garden and history groups, and other citizen-based groups whose primary interest is to maintain, restore, preserve, or improve Richmond’s public recreational resources. By affiliating with our Foundation and becoming an official partner, these committed individuals are given the opportunity to apply for grants and solicit tax-deductible contributions. In addition, they are able to lean on us for organizational leadership, resources, and networking. The Enrichmond Foundation is governed by a board of directors and works closely with the Department of Parks, Recreation, and Community Facilities. This relationship began when the Foundation was first established in 1990 with the assistance of the Citizen’s Advisory Board and the Department of Parks & Recreation. The purpose is, and has always been, to provide a means for citizens to give back to their communities.

The men of Alpha Phi Alpha are the first participants in The Cemeteries at Evergreens' DIVINE 9 Initiative. This program highlights the shared historical connections between HBCU fraternities. sororities and the ancestral legacies of Richmond VA.

Along with yearly volunteer participation, the Alphas are adopting the plots surrounding the family of Eugene Kinckle Jones, one of the fraternities founders.

Here is a clip of the final ceremony of dedication to the Jones family. A descendant of the family viewed the ceremony live via FaceTime. It was with her approval and guidance that made this a historic event!

Saturday, April 23rd, from 4-9 pm, join Owl Orchard Community Garden to celebrate Earth Day. Check out the new (and unclaimed) raised beds and the newly clear path around the border (4 x around is close to a mile). There will be a grill, so BYO food/drink and there will be a porta-potty for your comfort.

Show Owl Orchard some love by making a donation through Enrichmond at https://enrichmond.org/.../friends-owl-orchard-community.../

The Friends of Bellemeade Park will be hosting a Conserve and Create workday in Bellemeade Park. We will be targeting the removal of invasive plants, other gardening activities, riparian/stream side restoration, pruning, mulching and general cleanup near the Bellemeade Community Center (adjacent to Oak Grove/Bellemeade Elementary School).

Location & Time: 1800 Krouse Street, Richmond, VA 23224
April 2, 2022 9:00AM-12:00PM EST

Message from Bob:

Please come and join us and meet your neighbors!!!

Be advised that there is poison ivy in the woods where invasive plants will be removed. Long sleeves are recommended and proper handling of the clothes you wear is important so the oil doesn't touch someone's skin. While we're not trying to get rid of poison ivy (the berries are nutritious for some birds), it's growing among the invasive Japanese honeysuckle & English ivy.

Ticks may be out -- use repellent and check yourself thoroughly when you get home.

Please bring:
Refillable water bottle (full)
Work gloves
Clothing appropriate for this activity (layers are recommended so you can add/remove layers to maintain comfort)
Snack
Mask

Note on COVID 19:
Planning for this event will have to remain flexible to ensure compliance with current COVID-19 restrictions.

Did you hear?! Earlier this month, we launched our exclusive Facebook group for descendant families, Family Council members, and supporters of the Cemeteries at Evergreen. This community is a safe space for meaningful conversations about the lives and legacy of those resting at the cemeteries.

As we continue our work to preserve these spaces, we know we can't do it alone. This labor of love requires true COMMUNITY, and we're proud to invite you to join. In this group, we'll be answering any cemetery and descendant family inquiries, welcoming feedback, and providing a dedicated space for all things Cemeteries at Evergreen. Will you join us?

Visit the link https://www.facebook.com/groups/995261824375798/ to join! We can't wait to connect with you!

St. Michael's was delighted to welcome Genifer Ross, Volunteer and Community Outreach Coordinator for the Enrichmond Foundation, as our Chapel speaker today. Ms. Ross shared with our students the important work Enrichmond is overseeing to restore the Historic Evergreen Cemetery, a historic African-American cemetery founded in the late 1800s. As a UNESCO World Heritage site, among those who rest there are such RVA luminaries as Maggie L. Walker, John Mitchell, Jr., Dr. Sarah Garland Boyd Jones, and Rev. J. Andrew Bowler. Enrichmond is responsible for stewarding and activating Richmond public spaces through conservation and programming.
