Governor Spanberger signed a bill requiring law enforcement to show their faces and identify themselves while on duty. While we see this as progress, we are also disappointed that she vetoed a bill that would have prevented civil immigration arrests without a warrant in courthouses, schools, and hospitals, a bill built directly from the experiences of impacted Virginians. Our communities deserve more than half measures. The work continues.

✊🏿✊🏾✊🏽✊🏿✊🏾✊🏽

Virginia's ban on public sector collective bargaining was rooted in white supremacist backlash against Black workers in the 1940s. The General Assembly moved to correct that history and Governor Spanberger just chose to extend it instead.

New Virginia Majority will keep fighting until that changes. Read the entire press release in the link in the comments.

We are angry — and we should be. The Supreme Court of Virginia threw out the votes of millions of Virginians, but they cannot erase the movement we've built. We will keep fighting for fair maps, equitable representation, and the voting rights our communities deserve.

NVM's canvassing and phone banking efforts show direct voter contact matters:
🚶 92,000+ doors knocked
📞 62,000+ phone calls made =
📋 154,000+ contact attempts by NVM organizers❗
✅ 80% of voters we reached supported YES

The amendment passed by a margin of 3.4 points (51.7% to 48.3%). However, certification is still being contested in court, and we're watching closely. The fight isn't over — which means neither are we. Join us for our next volunteer meeting:

Virginia said YES! 🗳️ On April 21st, voters approved the redistricting referendum — and the impact is massive. Virginia's congressional map is set to shift from a 6-5 split to a projected 10-1 Democratic advantage, a 4-seat swing that could flip the U.S. House majority on its own. The vote is won, but the fight isn't over — legal challenges head to the Virginia Supreme Court this week, with a ruling expected in the coming weeks.

Follow along as we track every development. 💙

The Virginia General Assembly passed protections for our communities. The Governor sent them back gutted. We are calling on our elected leaders in the Virginia General Assembly to REJECT the amendments to these crucial bills.🙅🏾‍♀️

Here's the pattern:

→ Courthouse protections? Officers who break the law are now shielded from lawsuits.
→ Face mask accountability? Agencies police themselves now.
→ Ma*****na marketplace? Racial equity provisions stripped — and new criminal penalties added.
→ Right to unionize? Delayed until 2030.

These weren't minor tweaks. These were the teeth of the bills — and they were pulled. 😤

Black and Brown Virginians fought hard this session for policies that would protect our communities. We deserve to know exactly what happened to what we won.✊🏿✊🏽✊🏾
