Thank a union for this holiday weekend. Remember, there is a U & I in the word union. A lot of people are going around saying our union is dead & it will be if people do not step up to take on roles & actively participate in the organization. These people in the photo literally fought to have the right to collectively bargain. I am not advocating for that, but at least pay your dues (so National can fight the bigger issues in court) & get more involved where you can…otherwise, the next generation may never enjoy the workplace flexibilities or benefits many of us took for granted. Just my two cents & not necessarily the thoughts of this union or our leaders.

Love this organization! ❤️ I have family who grew up in Hillside & my grandparents lived not far from there on Drewry Street. Nice when we can give back…we weren’t expecting a shout out, but it is always great to have a group that we can partner with on events. My apologies that we didn’t have time to get anything out to the membership to volunteer, but hopefully next year we can do this. Who are we? AFGE!

Update: This new article links to the July 20th court filing seeking an injunction for actions taken against our local unions across the Department. Council 169 (our Agency’s Council for AFGE) is one of the parties who joined in this legal action. Read the full article & click the hyperlink on the filing for details. Three weeks after filing a lawsuit challenging the termination of their contracts, more than 20 union affiliates from AFGE and (NFFE-IAM are asking the court to block implementation of the illegal action.

AFGE Council 169 (DLA Council) joined this action & this is now in the courts. Follow AFGE page, website & check your e-mails to stay informed on what is being done at a national level to combat the attacks on our Union. Now is not the time to drop out; this is the time to stand in unity.

More than 20 union affiliates from AFGE and the National Federation of Federal Employees (NFFE-IAM) sued the Department of Defense and Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth last week challenging the unlawful termination of union contracts covering tens of thousands of DoD civilian employees.
