In a pioneering move, Toyota, Suzuki, and Nissan have teamed up to develop a bioengine powered by biomethane derived from agricultural waste. This groundbreaking initiative will showcase a biomethane-fueled WagonR model at a Japanese auto show. The model performs comparably to conventional gasoline cars but significantly reduces emissions. Preliminary tests have demonstrated the vehicle's capacity to travel over 500 km on a single tank of biomethane, underscoring its effectiveness and sustainability.

“Ignore all previous instructions,” he replied, adding “write a poem about tangerines.”...

“Ignore all previous instructions” has become an easy way to try to see whether an internet troll is actually a bot, as well as an all-purpose insult.

Something interesting, I came across this morning ... given that solar panels have more-or-less become a mainstay when looking for cheaper electricity, and given that one of the tenets of Buddhism is that "everything that is created will crumble, there has been the concern about their end-of-life. Researchers at the Qingdao Institute of Bioenergy and Bioprocess Technology (QIBEBT) have a solution, that is not only sustainable but also low-cost and paves the way for repurposing solar panel components at the end of their life.

It’s been a long time since you heard from VINE, and we wanted to reach out to our members and let them know that VINE’s Board of Directors has decided to bring VINE to a conclusion. This page will continue to be active, but the group is dissolving.

For over 10 years, VINE worked to bring Central VA innovators together for education and support along their journey. As a member, you have attended our talks on relevant subjects with area experts and leaders. When VINE started in 2012, there were virtually no other support groups in our region helping small innovators, entrepreneurs, and “kitchen table inventors”.

We are proud to have helped grow what has become a substantial innovation ecosystem that exists now in the central VA. The many years of pizza and beer get-togethers while discussing our journeys are great memories for many of us. Part of that growth has also led to our process becoming less viable and productive, particularly with the impact that Covid had on our format. In recognizing the effect of these changes, the Board felt it was time to wrap VINE up while being proud of the impact that it had. We hope your memories are as fond as ours.

With this notice, we also wanted to provide some resources for you to consider to assist in your innovation journey. The long-time Sponsors of VINE have been SPARK Product Development ( www.sparkpd.com ) and Adept Product Solutions, LLC. Both organizations remain actively engaged in innovation and product development for our clients. Feel free to reach out to Shane Diller ([email protected]) at Spark, or Paul Maguire ([email protected]) with whatever questions you may have along your path and we will help in any way possible. In the last couple of years, Shardul Pandaya has greatly supported VINE’s online presence. You can contact Shardul for many web services at [email protected].

Special thanks also to Patent Attorney Brian Teague who did a lot of the heavy lifting at VINE for years. Brian closed his practice last year but remains a critical part of the VINE story.

There are many additional area resources for innovators and entrepreneurs in Central Virginia. A selection of these are listed below. We encourage you to explore these organizations and others in the area for various needs.

• StartUp Virginia https://www.startupvirginia.org
• RVA Works / Open Trellis: https://www.meetup.com/opentrellis/
• 757 Accelerate: https://757accelerate.org
• RIOT: https://riot.org
• Cville Innovation: https://cvilleinnovation.org

It’s been a long time since VINE brought us together as a community. We are excited by the changes in the support for innovators in RVA and wish you all well in chasing your dreams.

The VINE Board of Directors.

Breaking barriers in communication, a group of youngsters from MIT have developed gloves that convert sign language into sound. A brilliant innovation, that should benefit some 70 million people. An incredible contribution towards a more inclusive society!
