In addition to a multitude of green spaces, Wayne County also has some beautiful blue spaces. Blue spaces are visible water features, which include both natural and man-made water features. So, if you have a pool or pond in your backyard, you already have your own blue space! The benefits of blue spaces include increased feelings of calm, faster healing, increased physical activity, and better sleep. If you need a refresher, green spaces are maintained or unmaintained environmental areas, which can include nature reserves, wilderness environments and urban parks. What do green spaces have to do with mental health? Engagement with green spaces offers benefits, such as reducing stress, anxiety, and depression while increasing overall well-being. What makes a community thrive? We gathered to find out. Last week, we were proud to partner with the Indiana Philanthropy Alliance to host Building Bridges With Community Heart & Soul, a session exploring how to center resident voices, uncover shared strengths, and build more inclusive community conversations. The Reid Center provided a beautiful space for attendees and some history lessons as well! Attendees also had the option to take a tour of the Historic Starr Neighborhood following the event. It was a great day!
