This Thanksgiving, you can help put hope on the table. For many families, rising costs make the holiday feel heavy — but your generosity can bring relief, comfort, and joy.

Together, we can make sure our neighbors don’t face the holiday hungry.

October 17 is World Poverty Day.

Today we recognize the millions of people around the world who are struggling to meet their basic needs — and we reaffirm our commitment to serve with compassion, dignity, and hope. The Salvation Army cannot do this work alone. If you’re able, please consider supporting our efforts to fight poverty and uplift families in need: https://tinyurl.com/3uvu7tm4.

Thanks to the Richmond Chamber of Commerce for visiting us and allowing us to share what we do.

Yesterday, members of the Richmond Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors met with Lieutenants Stephanie and Joshua Brice of The Salvation Army to learn more about the services they provide and explore ways the Richmond Chamber can support their upcoming efforts and campaigns.

We appreciate the opportunity to connect and learn more about their work serving individuals and families in our community.

Also joining the visit were Colleen Spencer and Mayor Robert Blythe (not pictured).

The bell isn’t the tradition — you are. For more than a century, the sound of the Red Kettle has only mattered because someone chose to stand beside it. The real tradition is the kindness, the smile, the warm “Merry Christmas” that volunteers bring to every shift.

When you ring the bell, you’re not just keeping a tradition alive — you’re helping families find hope during the holidays.

Sign up to ring this Christmas: salvationarmyvolunteer.org

Every Angel Tree gift begins with someone choosing to make Christmas brighter for a child. When you purchase a gift through our online Angel Tree registry, it’s delivered directly to us, sorted with care by volunteers, and placed into the hands of a child who needs hope this season.

Your generosity starts the journey — joy is where it ends.

As we approach the holidays, your support is already at work — bringing food, shelter, and comfort to neighbors in need across Kentucky and Tennessee.

Today we’re highlighting Leanne, who has spent more than 30 years delivering food boxes, checking in on community members, and offering care that goes far beyond a simple visit.

“I don’t just deliver food as a job. I got to know these people… One woman needed someone to come weekly to help her prep her medicines or get her food together. I would go there once a week — sometimes just to listen. They become family, too.

It feels good to help. I do it for the Lord to serve others, and if I have an extra hour in a day, I can take it to help people.”

Volunteers like Leanne show what compassion looks like in action — and your support makes that compassion possible.
