🚨 Small businesses are the backbone that holds Richmond together. For years, we have been asking for safety and real results along 23rd Street, Macdonald Ave, and San Pablo Ave, but our calls have been ignored.

On behalf of the 23rd Street Merchants Association, we wish to state that we have never received support from Councilmember Claudia Jiménez.

When concerns arose regarding street vendors and the need to find solutions that would not harm established businesses, we were the ones who took the initiative. We researched ordinances from other cities in the county and proposed relocating street vendors to designated areas so they would not lose their livelihoods. Throughout this process, she showed no willingness to assist us; it was only after we turned to City Manager Shasa Curl that we were heard and supported.

Since Claudia Jiménez (RPA) took office, small businesses have not received any real help. On the contrary, we have faced tax hikes as well as increased costs for the licenses and permits required to operate.

The 23rd Street Merchants Association organizes one of Richmond’s largest and most important events. On one occasion, Councilmember Jiménez offered us what she called "support," yet suggested it would be better not to have a police presence at the event. While we hired private security to prevent incidents, we recognize that the police play a vital role in ensuring the well-being of attendees. It is evident that Claudia Jiménez has consistently maintained an anti-police stance, prioritizing her personal agendas over the safety of our community and our businesses.
