Audrey Landers, Ph.D., created the Commonwealth Endowed Professorship in Breast Cancer Excellence as a lasting way to recognize the exceptional care Mary Helen Hackney, M.D. provided to her for over a decade. Dr. Hackney has since been appointed to the professorship.

“With an endowed professorship added to the existing stellar collection of faculty and researchers at Massey, it is my hope that more of the best and the brightest will be competing to work there,” Landers said.

At every appointment, Mary Helen Hackney, M.D., greeted longtime patient Audrey Landers, Ph.D., with the same question: “What’s on your worry list today?” Landers was never shy about running through her agenda.

Last week, a sold-out audience of 400 supporters gathered at Jefferson Hotel Richmond for the 31st annual Women and Wellness Luncheon, presented by Primis to support VCU Massey Comprehensive Cancer Center. Keynote speaker, Olympic athlete and cancer survivor Chaunté Lowe offered a powerful reminder of the strength and resilience of our community, having a “champion mindset” and the power of health self-advocacy. The cumulative giving from the Virginia Moose Association has made a major difference at VCU Massey Comprehensive Cancer Center.

"For decades... Virginia’s state Moose organization, made up of tens of thousands of members from lodges around the state, has kept Massey at the forefront of its giving priorities. The relationship started in 1986 and, since then, more than $2.5 million has been raised through VMA’s annual charity events."

Dr. Anthony Faber and Dr. Jennifer Koblinksi spoke last week at Massey’s Innovator’s Forum, moderated by Dr. Patrick Nana-Sinkam, at the Virginia Museum of History and Culture to discuss targeted therapies that could potentially pave the way for new treatment options for those with rare cancers. The event also included the Brushstrokes of Discovery Community Engagement Mural Project, a community mural celebrating the partnership between cancer patients and scientists.

The Innovator’s Forum celebrates the trailblazing research and patient-centered care at VCU Massey Comprehensive Cancer Center. It brings together thought leaders and supporters to spotlight advancements that are redefining cancer treatment and inspiring hope.
