Rag & Bones Bicycle Co-op

Rag & Bones Bicycle Co-op Richmond's DIY community bicycle workshop space, keeping bicycles & DIY knowledge accessible to all

Rag & Bones provides near universal access to used bike parts and bicycles in Richmond. We will continue to do this with our open shop & sales, which will expand to include a few new necessities for the Northside neighborhood. We will still provide affordable refurbished bikes and used parts, and for adults who cannot afford a bicycle we have an Earn a Bike program. For kids in the shop, we will h

ave a youth night, where young folks can fix bikes, volunteer for a free bike, and learn repairs. During the summer, we help run a youth camp called Camp Spokes. To learn repair in our shop in a more structured way, we’ll offer sliding scale workshops on a variety of bike topics. If you want Rag & Bones to join your community event, we have a mobile bike repair set up.

It’s camp spokes week!! 🚲🦋
‼️We are CLOSED today because we’ve got our high school campers building their bikes, screenprinting shirts and making other crafts like hydrodipped water bottles, safety pizzas, and more!
🛠️We’ve already had a jam packed two days of learning how to fix a flat, identifying tools and then immediately testing that knowledge with tool bingo, and racing to label all the parts on a bike correctly.
🗣️Rag & Bones will REOPEN for normal hours on Wednesday again and have our first Thursday volunteer night from 6-8pm this week. Come on by!
🥗Very big thanks to our lunch donors so far, roots provided diy lunch bowls on Monday and today we had sandwiches and sides from our *new cafe* coming to a front space of rag and bones near you 🙂

TONIGHT ONLY!!!
Watch as our shop is transformed into a showcase for the , a show featuring dozens of pieces made from and inspired by our garbage world.

“Trash objects have a fraught life before going into the hands of artists, giving them special energy. An ethos of scrappiness, playfulness, and devotion to trash has emerged.” - Rowan & Victor, curators

After tonight, select pieces will stay in the space to serve as our first batch of featured makers and artists, a one-two month residency spot on the walls and shelves of our space that you too can apply for! You can visit our website and fill out the form under the “featured artists” tab. We will also sell your work for you! The only thing we ask for in exchange is that you teach one workshop on an aspect of your craft in our space.

Come tonight for the opening, come see community art anytime, or get involved yourself at “Rag & Bones, a bicycle cooperative full of joy, community care, skill sharing and trash”

♻️The life cycle of a kids bike
🚲 A number of kids bikes were donated this spring, but since we’re still waiting on some things for the space to open we decided to fix them up and take them out around town

🌎 First, we joined the Randolph Community Center in promoting cycling to youth while they closed the street to traffic for a block party. Then, we took the Hotchkiss Community Center summer program youth on a ride in Northside to check out the Cannon Creek Greenway and the secret skills park in the woods. Finally, we gave them to the community youth shop to give away to forever homes for back to school events. Big thanks to the coaches and center staff for having us and for providing a bike resource for youth in Southside.

📰 We should have some news about the space for you very soon! Til then, we’re always stoked to support other events and programs :)

🪴A cool few days!
🚵🏽Thanks for hosting a wholesome bike evening, for leading a MTB ride, for screening the film Monte and talking about the sweet programs you do, and everyone who came out to learn something new at our short “spotting and fixing issues before and on the ride” clinic.
🪨Then from and (and lots of other things) helped some of our alumni get comfortable riding the track down at Gillies Creek in our series of continuing to do different types of biking with .
🚫⚡️The shop still doesn’t have power, but one day soon we’ll be back open and doing programming in the space. We miss you! 🐛

Our Story

If your ride is a bit of a clunker, bring it to us and we will teach you how to fix it. We have refurbished bicycles for sale, and depending on what we have in stock, you can even build your own! We also have repair manuals and other types of useful literature for you to browse while relaxing on the couch during down time.
