This needs to be stopped !

"It has come to our attention that the Penterra Company (Richard R. Poe, California Agent for Service), the property owner and landlord for Salute e Vita Ristorante at Marina Bay in Richmond has given the restaurant owner and operator, Menbere Aklilu, known as “Menbe,” a 30-day notice to vacate.

We believe that this action by Richard Poe is driven by spite and may be part of a retaliation against the City of Richmond as well as the people of Richmond resulting from the June election on Measures N and O, which Richard Poe lost. Spite is not a new motivation for Poe, whose Measure O to dramatically reduce the Richmond City Manager’s compensation had no compelling objective other than spite and retaliation.

There will be a press conference tomorrow morning, Wednesday, August 9, at 10:00 AM at Salute Ristorante, 1900 Esplanade Drive Richmond, CA 9480, to protest the action.

Menbe has become a celebrity in recent years for her charitable works and her own compelling personal story of abuse and homelessness that eventually brought her from Ethiopia to Italy and finally to Richmond to become the owner of a successful business since 1993. She delivered the commencement speech at Holy Names University in 2013, received the Jefferson Award in 2015, provides a Thanksgiving feast for the homeless every year and was named to the Women’s Hall of fame by Senator Loni Hancock in 2016.

In addition, Menbe has
· Sponsored Menbe's Way Fun, is managed by Richmond Community Foundation.
· Donated to the Richmond Rescue Shelter.
· Hosted annual Thanksgiving dinners for homeless families and individuals at Salute's since 2011. In 2014 she expanded this dinner to include veterans from Oakland, Richmond and Marin County. Over the years she has developed the Thanksgiving dinner to include a health fair that provides flu shots and personal items for each attendee.
· Hosted annual Mothers’ Day brunches for low income single mothers from the Pullman Point Apartments.
· Provided jobs to young women who live in Pullman Point by hiring them for various positions at Salute e Vita.
· Made substantial funding contributions East Bay Center for Performing Arts.
· Makes continuous contributions to the Family Justice Center.
· Holds regular etiquette classes at her restaurant for young women."

Dear Richmond Stakeholders,

I am writing to request donations on behalf of the 1st Annual Rich City Clean UP Day.
The first annual "Rich city clean up day" will be held on Saturday July 30th from 10:30am-1:30pm. We will meet at Nichol Park. Volunteers will be assigned to a specific neighborhood in Richmond. After the clean up we will meet back at Nichol Park to have a small lunch talk about the importance of a clean environment and other life skills. We would like to provide snacks, water and a light lunch to all of our wonderful volunteers. This is a kid friendly event and we encourage parent to bring children. We are asking for water, fruit snacks, sandwich bread, meat cheese or anything that would be great!! Also you can donate garbage bags or plastic gloves. People in our hardest hit communities need help cleaning up our neighborhood and we need your help.

3 months ago One of our youngest farmers came to our volunteer day right when we were cleaning up with her dad.
She had an incredibly driven look on her face and came to me and said she'd been thinking about something and had wanted to ask me something since our last volunteer day.
she said that she loved grapes and was wondering if it just might be possible to grow grapes at the farm.
I said well of course!
she clapped her hands and her face became a smile. and said 'we are gonna grow grapes!'
my heart just melted
