Celebrating Our January 2026 Nurse Residency Program Graduates!

We are thrilled to recognize the outstanding accomplishments of our Nurse Residency Program (NRP) participants from both our Downtown Medical Center and Community Memorial Hospital.

During our January 2026 NRP Poster Showcase & Recognition, residents proudly presented their clinical inquiry posters, demonstrating their commitment to evidence-based practice, innovation, and exceptional patient care. Each project reflected thoughtful exploration of real-world clinical challenges and meaningful improvements at the bedside.

A highlight of the event was our peer voting, where residents had the opportunity to recognize and celebrate the most impactful projects among their cohort—uplifting one another’s achievements and fostering a strong sense of professional community.

Congratulations to all of our NRP graduates on reaching this important milestone! Your dedication, curiosity, and passion for nursing continue to make a lasting difference for our patients, teams, and community.👏

At VCU Health, our nurses are leading beyond the bedside—partnering to grow knowledge across our teams and community. 💙

Several VCU Health Nurses recently attended a Society of Trauma Nurses TCRN Review Pilot Course, where our Trauma Nurse Clinician Beth helped teach alongside peers from across Virginia—empowering nurses to pursue certification.

Nurse Practitioner Chris presented at the Central Virginia EMS Expo, collaborating with providers and a former patient to discuss a powerful burn case study, highlighting lessons learned, patient-centered care, and the impact of coordinated trauma response—helping advance knowledge for both our nurses and community partners.

Together, our nurses are advancing their practice, strengthening partnerships, and improving patient outcomes. 👏

Team Member Spotlight: Shannon, Epilepsy Nurse Program Coordinator

We’re proud to highlight Shannon, who brings 20 years of nursing experience and a passion for patient-centered care to our Epilepsy team at VCU Health.

Shannon began her career in cardiothoracic surgery and went on to serve as a lung transplant coordinator and quality coordinator, gaining a wide range of clinical and leadership experience along the way. From presenting at national conferences to supporting surgical quality improvement and participating in organ recovery, her career has been defined by growth, dedication, and impact.

After two decades, Shannon was ready for a new challenge and found her home at VCU Health. What drew her in was the energy, collaboration, and commitment of the Epilepsy Program team to improving patient outcomes and expanding care.
