The event also provided an opportunity for colleagues, leaders, and peers to recognize the creativity, dedication, and impact of these emerging nursing professionals.

Please join us in congratulating Christiane, a Clinical Nurse in the Clinical Decision Unit, on being recognized with a DAISY Award for extraordinary compassion, clinical expertise, and dedication to patient-centered care.

When a family encountered an unexpected challenge with medical equipment after leaving the hospital, Christiane recognized an opportunity to help. Drawing on her clinical knowledge and resourcefulness, she coordinated with multiple teams, communicated directly with the family, and ensured they received the supplies and education they needed to continue care safely at home.

Although the patient was not under her direct care, Christiane took ownership of the situation, going above and beyond to prevent additional stress for the family and provide a seamless solution. Her willingness to step in, collaborate, and personally support the family reflects the very best of nursing.

Christiane's actions exemplify the compassion, advocacy, and commitment to excellence that define the DAISY Award and make a lasting difference for patients and families every day.

Congratulations, Christiane, and thank you for the exceptional care you provide.

Last week all four of our Nursing Shared Governance Councils met to advance initiatives that strengthen nursing practice, elevate the voice of clinical nurses, and support excellence in patient care. Any nurse can get involved and make an impact through Shared Governance!

This photo is from the most recent in-person Strategic Action Network (SAN) Meeting, where council co-chairs and leader liaisons came together to discuss council updates, collaborate on priorities, and ensure projects and initiatives continue moving forward across the health system. Together, they also focus on evolving our Shared Governance structure and model to promote meaningful nurse engagement and shared decision-making.

They were also honored to have Dr. Mary Marshman, Chief Nursing Officer, join the discussion and share support for the important work being led by our nursing councils.

Thank you to all of our council members, co-chairs, and leaders who dedicate their time and expertise to shaping the future of nursing at VCU Health.

Congratulations to Tom, Clinical Nurse on the Vascular Access Team, for being recognized with a Service Star Award for demonstrating exceptional compassion, creativity, and patient-centered care.

When Tom cared for a patient with significant physical limitations, he recognized a need beyond medical treatment. Using creativity and empathy, Tom transformed the patient's own photographs into vibrant, visually engaging artwork, helping create a more stimulating and comforting environment.

This thoughtful act made a meaningful difference, with staff observing increased engagement from the patient. By treating the whole person and responding with kindness and intention, Tom exemplified what it means to provide extraordinary care.

Thank you, Tom, for going above and beyond to support your patients and for showing how compassion and innovation can make a lasting impact.
