First Tee - Greater Richmond

First Tee - Greater Richmond A youth development organization for all kids that teaches healthy habits and life skills through the game of golf.

Through our core programming, The Life Skills Experience, The First Tee of Greater Richmond provides youth with golf skills and life skills through weekly instruction. Our coaches are trained in The First Tee teaching methods which include inquiry-based instruction, open-ended questioning, and reflection. Junior golfers progress through seven skills levels based on attainment of both golf skills a

s well life skills. Participants enjoy low student to coach ratios, free practice balls, opportunities for supplemental play, leagues, tournaments and more. The Life Skills Experience has three seasons (Spring, Summer and Fall) each lasting between eight and ten weeks. The oldest participants at the highest skills level meet year round. During the summer season, The First Tee of Greater Richmond offers a variety of programs suited to a variety of schedules from week-long camps to weekly instruction in addition to leagues, championships and tournaments. In the off season, The First Tee of Greater Richmond endeavors to keep participants close and connected to the organization and their peers through movie nights, hands-on seminars focused on healthy habits and wellness, group outings and chapter socials. The First Tee of Greater Richmond is proud of its relationship with ten Chesterfield County public schools, 23 Richmond city public schools, three in Henrico County Public Schools, and two independent schools. At these 38 schools, students in grades K through 5 are receiving life skills and golf skills through the National Schools Program. The First Tee National Schools Program is a school-based program in which elementary students are instructed in core values, healthy habits and golf skills by their own physical education teachers trained by The First Tee. As a participant at The First Tee of Greater Richmond, junior golfers have countless opportunities to showcase their golf skills and good character, some requiring an application process while others are open to all. These opportunities include The First Tee Academies, The First Tee Open at Pebble Beach, Future Leaders Forum, The Scholars Program, and much more. At The First Tee of Greater Richmond, we are committed to providing children with the skills, opportunities, environment and support necessary to become successful, contributing members of our community.

Whether he is helping families as a Loan Officer at KORE Mortgage or encouraging kids on the range, his energy and passion inspire participants from all backgrounds to believe in themselves and keep growing.

Coach Soleil’s journey started as a Girl Scout, where she learned the importance of leadership, creativity, and building community. After picking up golf as an adult over the past two years, she now connects with participants in a unique way, encouraging them through the same learning process, celebrating small wins, and showing that growth happens one swing at a time. Thank you, Coach Soleil!

Coach Chevonne grew up through and on the basketball court, where she learned the value of teamwork, communication, and showing up for others. Today, as our Director of Education & Outreach, she uses those experiences to create opportunities for young people across the Greater Richmond community and ensure every participant feels seen, supported, and empowered to grow.

Meet Coach Madison. Before helping lead First Tee - Greater Richmond programs, she was a member of the rowing team at William & Mary, where teamwork, communication, and attention to detail made all the difference. Today, those same leadership skills keep our programs running smoothly while creating a positive experience for every participant and family we serve.

Every coach starts somewhere. ⛳

This , we are celebrating the coaches who make an impact on our participants every day by sharing throwback photos from their own journeys.

Long before they became mentors, they were young people learning lessons, building confidence, competing for trophies, and discovering themselves.

The theme reminds us the guidance, encouragement, and support coaches provide can shape a young person’s future in ways that last far beyond the course.
