Who are the Virginia Defenders for Freedom, Justice & Equality?

Founded in 2002, the Virginia Defenders for Freedom, Justice & Equality is an all-volunteer organization working for the survival of our communities through education and social justice actions.

Whether it's working to preserve Black historical sites in Richmond, protesting the brutal, racist conditions at the Red Onion Supermax prison in Southwest Virginia or fighting fascism at home and abroad, where there's a struggle of the oppressed against the oppressor, that's where you'll find the Defenders.

Today marks the 75th anniversary of the day 16-year-old Barbara Johns led a student walk-out at Moton High School in Farmville to protest the racially discriminatory inferior conditions at the school. The civil rights attorney Oliver Hill took up the case, which became one of five cases argued by NAACP attorney Thurgood Marshall before the U.S. Supreme Court in the landmark Brown v. Board of Education decision that outlawed racial discrimination in public schools.

Barbara Johns and Oliver Hill are depicted in a civil rights memorial on the grounds of the Virginia State Capitol. Another statue of Barbara Johns replaced Robert E. Lee inside the US Capitol last year.

On March 1, the day after the U.S. and Israel launched their unprovoked war against Iran, the Virginia Defenders wrote to an old friend in Tehran and asked if he and his family were OK.

These are the stories of Habib and his family as they live through the US-Israel bombing of Tehran.

Please share his story and visit the website for more emails from Iran. We hope they inspire you to speak out loudly and demand an end to this senseless, murderous war.

🚨EMERGENCY PROTEST🚨

TODAY, APRIL 7, IN RICHMOND - In front of the FEDERAL COURTHOUSE, 701 E. Broad St., Richhmond

President Donald Trump has threatened that if Iran doesn’t open the Strait of Hormuz by 8 p.m. on Tuesday, April 7, “A whole civilization will die tonight, never to be brought back again.”

This monster started a war based on a total lie, that Iran was weeks away from having a nuclear bomb - even though the UN’s nuclear watchdog, the IAEA, says there is no evidence that Iran is even working on one.

Meanwhile, Israel is bombing villages in southern Lebanon. Between these two fronts, thousands of people have died.

And here at home, Trump says the federal government can no longer afford to pay for Medicaid, Medicare or day care, because he wants a 40% increase in the military budget - to $1.5 trillion! The war has already raised the price of gasoline, and food and other goods will follow

We cannot stand idly by while this murderous war escalates! SHOW UP AND SPEAK OUT!
