Dear Community Supporter,
My name is Aisha Hall, and I am President of the Helping Hearts Heal club, a community leader, and a student advocate at Los Medanos College. As President of the Helping Hearts Heal Club (Triple H) our main focus is helping students and the community deal with life’s stressful situations, while also bringing awareness to violence. One of the ways Triple H is working to br
ing awareness to the senseless street violence that has been plaguing poor urban communities, is by sponsoring a walk against violence. On the second Saturday of July 2014, Triple H members and I will be holding an annual walk at Los Medanos College (LMC) known as “Walking Miles Against Violence”. This walk will not only help advocate against street violence and its effects, but it will also help raise funds for a scholarship for two LMC students, one male and one female, who have experienced the loss an immediate family member to street violence. In the Bay Area, street violence affects many students on a daily basis. Walking Miles Against Violence (WMAV) scholarship will not only help two students cope better with such a tremendous loss of a loved one, but it will also provide financial assistance which will help students continue with their education at Los Medanos College. Walking Miles Against Violence has four main goals: (1) to provide support in the coping process of losing a loved one, (2) providing financial support for one male and one female, (3) raise awareness of street violence in poor urban communities and the effect it has on the family of a lost loved one, (4) and sustaining a relationship with the community through the involvement of Helping Hearts Heal Club. We hope that your organization will help us achieve our goals by making a donation of supplies or goods for this important event. All donations will be acknowledged throughout the event via handouts and announcements during the walk and other fundraising events. We also welcome you to join us for a wonderful day filled with great food, good music, and a number of people walking for a great cause against street violence. Street violence may one day be tackled, but until then, advocacy to the community and help towards those affected by street violence must take place. In order to stop the cycle of street violence, Helping Hearts Heal is Walking Miles Against Violence, and this scholarship and walk may get us one step closer to the beginning of a new fight against street violence. By helping others, and advocating to the community, we can begin to take a step in the right direction to fight against street violence.
