Providing new books to children in need. Volunteers on our Board include individuals from a wide cross-section of our community.

First Book-Greater Richmond is an all-volunteer local Advisory Board established to serve children in the greater Richmond metropolitan area. Our primary goal is to work with existing literacy programs in the Richmond metropolitan area to provide a steady stream of age-appropriate books to children who, for economic reasons, have little or no access to books. We work to provide six to twelve books

to the same child within the same year. This helps them to establish libraries in their homes, as opposed to a one-time donation of a book. This is what sets First Book apart from other organizations and helps children develop a love for reading. We focus on children at the preschool, elementary school, and middle school levels and provide them with brand-new, high-quality books.
