Virginia Division, Sons of Confederate Veterans

Virginia Division, Sons of Confederate Veterans We defend the good name of the Virginia Confederate Soldiers who left their homes and families to go fight off an invading Yankee Army. Deo Vindice!
(1)

We are the leading heritage defense organization in this great Commonwealth having over 3,000 active members. We stand ready to defend any malicious attack on the Confederate States of America, its people, its government, its principles, and its flags. The citizen soldiers of the Confederate Army, Navy, and Marine Corps were forced to fight for their homes and families after an invader marched sou

th with intentions to forcefully bring into submission these freedom loving people to the will of the ever growing central government. For four long years, they struggled, against overwhelming odds, to fight the good fight, keep the faith, and remain separate and sovereign. God Bless this great Commonwealth of Virginia and God Bless the South!

Hanover Dragoons Camp #827, Sons of Confederate Veterans
Hanover Dragoons Compatriot and Oakwood Committee Member Brian Jones assembled a team to clean up the fence line and overgrown wooded area on the back side of Oakwood Cemetery. This is Brian’s report and photos. Great Job Brian!
On May 30th and 31st, a great deal of work was accomplished at Oakwood Cemetery in Richmond, Virginia. We made significant progress in beautifying this special and hallowed ground.
I am deeply grateful for the outstanding support from so many remarkable individuals. Fellow SCV camp compatriots, along with members from several different brigades, worked together in great unity.
Special recognition goes to the following:
• Bill Hall of the General Robert E. Lee Camp #1589, 8th Brigade
• Frank West of the Old Brunswick Camp #512, 8th Brigade
• Walt Smith of the Edmund Ruffin Fire-Eaters Camp #3000, 2nd Brigade
• David McKinney of the Brigadier General W. C. Wickham Camp #2250, 2nd Brigade
• Harrison Smith of the Hanover Dragoons Camp #827, 2nd Brigade
It truly shows what can be achieved when we work together as one unified group.
Thank you to everyone involved.

Photos from today's Inaugural Living History Program, and Battle at Lee-Jackson Memorial Park. We have officially held the first of, hopefully, an annual educational program on this latest addition to the park. We also have future plans for schools to teach safety and training to aspiring and current re-enactors. In addition, we held our Annual Memorial Day Program, including an address by Ret. Lt. Col. D. Jonathan White, PHD. We also had a wreath and brick laying time, and as always a big thank you, to the ladies who helped out by providing great food.

Cool event from up north!!

The members of Hartsuff Camp SUV of Rockland MA once again honored the graveside of Samuel Burnette, formerly of Bedford County VA and a Confederate veteran from the 34th Virginia Infantry. He moved north after the war and lived here until his passing in 1923. Although he was not an actual member of the camp, he was an unofficial member and is buried with his former adversaries who later became his friends.
God bless and be well.
Sincerely, Paul
