What a week at Camp NAWIC RVA!!

We wrapped up an incredible week by introducing our campers to flooring and tile installation with the help of Mapei and Morris Tile Distributors Inc. The campers installed both carpet and luxury vinyl flooring, created their own tile mosaics, and even had the opportunity to explore a diesel engine and heavy equipment simulator with the team from Carter CAT.

A special thank you to Brenna and Lauren for sharing your career journeys and showing our campers what a future in the skilled trades can look like.

The week concluded with a Showcase, where families, volunteers, and trade partners celebrated everything these young women accomplished in just five days. From framing and drywall to electrical, plumbing, HVAC, masonry, painting, flooring, and more, they didn't just learn about the trades; they experienced them firsthand.

To every volunteer, instructor, sponsor, and trade partner: thank you for investing your time, talent, and encouragement. And to our campers...thank you for your curiosity, teamwork, and willingness to try something new.

The future of construction is brighter because of programs like Camp NAWIC, and we can't wait to see where these young women go from here. Here's to another great camp next year!

Day 4 at Camp NAWIC RVA was all about bringing each project to life.

The campers spent the day painting their builds, and no two projects looked alike. Their creativity really shone as each team added its own unique style and personality.

The learning didn't stop there. The team from James River Exteriors introduced the campers to masonry, giving them another opportunity to get hands-on with a skilled trade while working together to complete some ambitious projects.

A big thank you to Sherwin-Williams for supplying the paint, James River Exteriors for sharing your expertise, and Premier Trade Services - U.S. for surprising everyone with a much-needed morning treat to keep the energy going!

We're excited to see these projects come together and can't wait to celebrate everything the campers have accomplished.

Day 3 at Camp NAWIC RVA was all about building new skills...and having a little fun along the way!

The morning kicked off with a PPE relay race before campers got to work installing outlets, switches, and light fixtures in their projects. A big thank you to Richmond Electricians Apprenticeship and IBEW Local 666 for sharing your expertise and helping bring electrical fundamentals to life.

In the afternoon, the focus shifted to HVAC with the team from ColonialWebb. Campers learned the basics of sheet metal by cutting and installing wall duct, then put their creativity to work building their own personal air conditioners using a bucket, a solar-powered fan, and ice. Thank you!

Every day, these young women are gaining hands-on experience, growing their confidence, and discovering just how many opportunities exist in the skilled trades.

The momentum continued on Day 2 at Camp NAWIC RVA!

Our campers packed an incredible amount into the day, building on the work they started earlier this week. They finished hanging drywall, taped and mudded the joints, installed siding, and got hands-on with plumbing—learning how to ProPress connections before installing sinks and toilets.

It's amazing to see their confidence grow with every new skill they tackle.

A huge thank you to our trade partners, DPR Construction and Atlantic Constructors, LLC., for sharing your time, expertise, and passion with the next generation of women in construction.

🔨 Camp NAWIC RVA is officially underway!

Camp NAWIC is a hands-on construction camp that introduces young women to construction, the skilled trades, and the many career opportunities available throughout the construction industry.

On Day One, our campers started with one of the most important lessons on any jobsite: safety. After learning about PPE and safe work practices, they rolled up their sleeves and got to work...framing floors and walls before wrapping up the day hanging drywall.

Not a bad way to kick off the week! We're excited to watch these future builders continue learning, growing, and gaining confidence over the next few days.

It is with heavy hearts that NAWIC South Atlantic and Richmond Chapter honors the life and legacy of our past president, Pam Stalnaker, who faithfully served our chapter from 2015 to 2017.

During Pam’s tenure as President, she demonstrated exceptional leadership, unwavering dedication, and a deep commitment to advancing women in the construction industry. Her guidance helped strengthen our chapter, foster meaningful connections among members, and uphold the mission and values of NAWIC with grace and professionalism.

Pam will be remembered not only for her contributions to NAWIC Richmond, but also for the lasting impact she made on colleagues, peers, and friends. Her leadership, kindness, and passion for the industry leave behind a legacy that will continue to inspire future generations.

We extend our deepest condolences to Pam's family, friends, and all who had the privilege of working alongside her.

Pam will be greatly missed and fondly remembered.
