Richmond Progressive Alliance

Richmond Progressive Alliance The RPA has this explicit goal: to take political decision-making back from corporations and put power in the hands of the people.

Our Core Beliefs

One Richmond. A better Richmond is possible only when we work together to unify the different populations that make up our diverse city. We need to end the policies that pit the Latino/a community against African-Americans against Asians against whites. We need a united community effort to take on the problems of crime, violence, economic inequality, and decaying infrastructure t

hat are the results of political policies at the state and national level combined with globalization. Democracy is about people, not corporations. Corporations have too much power in our society. In all our activities and campaigns we refuse contributions from large corporations and try to answer their power with the voluntary activity of large numbers of people. These ideas have taken on greater importance with the growth of the right-wing and the Supreme Court’s ruling to allow corporations to make unlimited political contributions. Democracy is about the public making the important decisions and ending the back room politics of corporations using their power, pulling strings, or buying support through contributions. Diversity and respect for each other's ideas. We don’t all agree on every issue and invite discussion in our newsletter. We are registered as Democrats, Greens, independents, and in other parties. But we do agree on the need to build a strong progressive movement in Richmond where people support each other.

The Richmond Progressive Alliance (RPA) is excited to endorse Council Member Claudia Jimenez for Mayor in 2026. We support mayoral candidate Claudia Jimenez because she is the best leader to move the city of Richmond forward. Claudia has demonstrated skills in managing city finances, championing immigrant rights, and spearheading the Chevron settlement fund. She has established and maintains close relationships with residents, labor unions, and community organizations. Claudia represents the strength, commitment, and working-class leadership our city needs. RPA looks forward to supporting her candidacy, which represents a historic opportunity as Richmond’s first immigrant and Latina mayor. Claudia Jimenez will unite us. Join us for the win!

RPA Membership Roundtable
Date: May 10, 2025 | 11:00 AM - 1:00 PM
Location: 12929 San Pablo Ave, Richmond, CA 94804

Topic: Yesterday, Today, and Tomorrow: RPA’s Strengths and New Directions
RPA has a long history of working to change Richmond politics. We’ve been active on national issues, including immigration, sanctuary, banking reform, environmental sustainability, and advancing progressive politics. RPA member Steve Early will join us and discuss his chapter about RPA in The Political Economy of California: A Reader in Politics, Economics, and Social Policy. Early has been an RPA member since 2012 and is the author of five books, including Refinery Town.

Early will share some of his analysis of RPA as he traces our history of being part of a broader movement, how we have run our organization (helping electeds do their jobs, developing allies, working on a team, etc.), the topics we choose to embrace (reimagining public safety, backing popular ballot measures, linking local issues to global ones, among others), how we learn from our successes as well as survive defeats, and more. We will review where we’ve been, offer our own perspectives of where we stand today, and propose next steps for our organization.

Join the conversation and bring your ideas to the table.

Collective Power in Action 💪🏽
After months of grassroots pressure and community testimony, Contra Costa County is stepping up for immigrants:

⭐ Full funding secured for the SAFE Center – a one-stop hub for essential immigrant services
