Thrive Birth to Five Committed to ensuring families have access to quality, affordable childcare, we serve as the designated lead for Ready Region Central, covering 17 localities.

Thrive Birth to Five (formerly Smart Beginnings Greater Richmond) is a partnership among public and private agencies, businesses, and individuals serving the cities of Richmond, Colonial Heights and Petersburg as well as Chesterfield, Charles City, Goochland, Hanover, Henrico, New Kent and Powhatan counties. The partnership works to enhance the quality of early childhood care and learning for youn

g children. Smart Beginnings Greater Richmond is one of the first Smart Beginnings coalitions in the Commonwealth, established in 2006. Now housed at the Greater Richmond Chamber Foundation, the initiative is a partnership among public and private agencies, businesses and individuals working to enhance the quality of early childhood care and learning for young children, so they will be well-prepared to enter the workforce.

Thank you, Dolly Parton. Your legacy will live on through the joy of books, imagination, and a love of reading.

Do you have children under the age of 5? Visit Dolly Parton's Imagination Library or Imagination Library RVA to sign up today and receive a free book per month.

In 1995, Dolly Parton started mailing books to children in her home county to inspire children to love reading in honor of her dad, who couldn’t read or write.

That idea lives here too. Every month, 9,000 children in our Central Virginia localities find a book in the mailbox — because of neighbors who fund it, volunteers who run it, and a woman from Sevier County, TN who started it all.
