Do you have a passion for pregnancy and birth? Do you want to help offer a great resource to birthing families in your community? Birth Matters Virginia needs YOU to help revitalize our Richmond Chapter by serving as the Richmond Chapter Director!
WHAT IS BIRTH MATTERS VIRGINIA?
Birth Matters Virginia is a non-profit, statewide volunteer organization that seeks to improve birth outcomes and lower social and economic costs through access to education, dissemination of evidence, and the sharing of personal narrative. This is mainly achieved through local, monthly, free Birth Circles, which are safe, supportive spaces for people who intend to give birth, have given birth, or who are preparing to give birth, and those in the care community that support them. At Birth Circle, people are encouraged to share birth stories and ask questions about pregnancy, birth, and the postpartum period. In addition to Birth Circles, local Chapters also provide community events such as film screenings, educational events (e.g. comfort measures in labor), maternal health fairs, and care provider celebrations (e.g. midwifery celebrations).
CHAPTER DIRECTOR ROLE
One year, volunteer term. The Chapter Director oversees day to day activities of the chapter, represents the chapter as a voting member of the Coordinating Board of BMVA, and attends 3 of 4 regularly scheduled state meetings to serve as an active participant of the governing body of the organization.
