Exciting news! Yesterday, Sheltering Arms Institute welcomed 18 new Sara Stedy sit-to-stand devices—technology made possible through our Margin of Excellence programs. These devices help patients participate more actively in transfers, supporting mobility, independence and dignity throughout rehabilitation. They also help our nursing team provide safer, more efficient assistance while reducing the physical strain of moving patients.

We had some fun with 51 Pizza today as they stopped by to share a slice of gratitude with our incredible team members! 🍕

Today is Giving Day at Sheltering Arms! Our goal is to raise $175,000 in one day to help provide world-class physical rehabilitation for our community—and thanks to a generous group of donors, every gift will be doubled.

Will’s story is one of the many Moments of Change made possible through the generosity of our community. In 2024, while attending UVA, Will experienced a traumatic brain injury after a fall. Following his hospital stay at UVA Health System, he came to Sheltering Arms Institute Hospital ready to focus on his recovery.

His care team supported and challenged him throughout his journey. Recovery was difficult and often uncomfortable, but his therapists reassured him that progress was possible. Through determination and hard work, Will discovered a new meaning of resilience and strength.

Today is Giving Day!

For Matthew, a life-changing diagnosis of Guillain-Barré Syndrome marked the beginning of a challenging journey—and a powerful moment of change. When he arrived at Sheltering Arms unable to walk, he was determined to return home to his five-month-old twin daughters and walk down the aisle at his wedding.

“Sheltering Arms was the place I was able to heal,” Matthew shared.

With the support of his family and Sheltering Arms care team, Matthew worked toward the moments that mattered most—holding his daughters, returning home, and stepping into the next chapter of his life.
