Hello Friends, as part of the dam removal project research, the Parks department is looking for photos of flooding at the spillway or the dam. Please share here if you’re willing and able. If you’re want to share but not here, let me know and we’ll figure out a way.

This photo is from the Friends’ archive and was taken in 1998.

Mark your calendar to come see us at Bryan Park to share your thoughts on the preliminary plans for the future of this beloved park.

The design team will be set up and ready to chat, answer questions, and, most importantly, hear what you think! Your ideas and input will help to shape Bryan Park and Upham Brook, and we want to make sure your voice is a part of the process.

Everyone is welcome! Whether you’re a regular Bryan Park visitor, a first-timer, a neighbor, or just curious - stop by, see what’s in the works, and share your thoughts with us.

This is a casual, drop-in event with no formal presentation. Come anytime in the window even if you only have 10 minutes.

We'll be out near the Lower Bridge (at the end of Young's Pond, closest to Hermitage Road between Bryan Park Avenue and Gabriel Prosser Circle) on Tuesday, August 12th from 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm, and at the RVA Big Market on Saturday, August 16th from 8:00 am to 12:00 pm. We look forward to seeing you there and hearing from you!

In the meantime, visit www.rvah2o.org/bryan-park for background information on the project and the work ahead.

Meet Ginger, a very good girl. She visited the park today with her human who was photographing butterflies. The human saw some swallowtail cats on fennel.

Exciting new gall discovery today: witch hazel cone gall aphid looks unsightly but will not harm the plant.

This shrub is near the azalea garden pond. It’s in a group of 3, but is the only one with galls.
