Virginia PTA has partnered with Mindful Beginnings to bring safety and caregiving classes directly to your school. Babysitting certification, home alone safety, CPR and First Aid, and more, all taught by certified teachers and registered nurses, and every class your PTA hosts earns money for your unit. Mindful Beginnings is also a newly licensed American Red Cross provider, so CPR and AED certification for parents, coaches, and staff is now on the menu. Your PTA provides the room. Are you looking for ways to help prevent underage alcohol use in your community?

Virginia ABC Community Health & Engagement’s Project Sticker Shock is a media event that aims to prevent minors from obtaining alcohol from adults 21 and older or using a fake ID to purchase alcohol. During a Project Sticker Shock event, participants partner with their local retailers to place stickers and window clings on alcohol containers and cooler doors. The program encourages partnerships between community organizations, youth, retail establishments, law enforcement, local media and other community members. The best part is all resources for Project Sticker Shock are available for FREE!

Project Sticker Shock, a program that helps community groups work with convenience and grocery stores to prevent underage drinking.

From our partners with Virginia ABC Education & Prevention: In collaboration with Mothers Against Drunk Driving, the Virginia ABC Community Health & Engagement division offers free Power of Parents handbooks and training to empower caregivers to have intentional and ongoing conversations with teens about the dangers of underage drinking and drug use. Materials are adapted from Dr. Robert Turrisi’s (Pennsylvania State University) research with a wealth practical advice to help start the conversation and keep lines of communication open with teens.
