Where will you be tomorrow, June 6 for National Trails Day? 🥾We might be biased, but we’d recommend the Varina LandLab Conservation Area!

Located off historic Route 5 off Deep Bottom Road, CRLC stewards 353 acres of beautiful lands filled with pine forests 🌲 and wildflower 🌼 and grassy meadows with river and creek views. There over 5 miles of easy-level trails from three trailheads of grass and gravel surfaces for you and your little ones 👶and leashed pals 🐶. You’ll find educational signage, benches and picnic tables (carry out what you carry in!), ADA Accessible Port-A-John (Trailhead #2), plus an art installation by environmental sculptor Reece Camp Carter.

Whether you’re looking to get in your steps 🚶‍♀️bird watch 🪶or find a contemplative place to get away from the bustle 😌 the LandLab is an outdoor gem waiting for you to discover. Visit daily during daylight hours. Learn more and find the trails map and guidelines at our website.

Learn about the birds 🐦‍and the bees 🐝with CRLC this summer! 😉

CRLC's Land Stewardship Manager, Ashley Moulton, is joined at the Varina LandLab Conservation Area on June 27th by Ashlei Selden, Habitat Chair for the Central Virginia Chapter of Quail Forever, and then Clara Aus, Butterfly Exhibit Manager with Lewis Ginter Botanical Garden, on August 1st. Both family-friendly hikes will highlight the conservation area's natural habitats and benefits to the bounty of birds and insects that call this protected land home.

🙏🌳We’re always grateful to our partners in land conservation! Sincere thanks to Safe Harbor Title Company for their assistance on our latest conservation project supporting Central VA Agrarian Community Land Trust.

At Safe Harbor Title we believe smart land development isn't just about breaking ground, but about building resilience. We're proud to have recently facilitated title and settlement services to Capital Region Land Conservancy in its acquisition and transfer of over 60 acres in eastern Henrico County to the Central Virginia Agrarian Community Land Trust. As a Black, Indigenous, People of Color-led nonprofit organization, CACLT supports BIPOC control of land for building sustainable regional food systems. This work helps provide land tenure and ownership opportunities to farmers of color throughout the Central Virginia region.

Congratulations to the visionaries at Capital Region Land Conservancy and CACLT for making this landmark achievement a reality and many thanks for the opportunity!

Do you have a favorite view? 🌅One of CRLC's is of course, "The View That Named Richmond" that looks out over the James River from Libby Hill, which CRLC along with our partners helped save from development. 🤝 Special places like this are irreplaceable and need documenting, and you can help recognize others!

Make your favorite vista, historic landscape, or everyday view that captures the essence of your community known to Scenic Virginia. Nominations to the "Treasured Views" program run now through June 30 where your submission helps to ensure these sites are documented, understood, and considered in future planning decisions. The program is a multi-pronged effort to identify those scenic landscapes that are most precious to Virginia’s citizenry and to highlight the ones that are worthy of state recognition.
