Rev. Dr. Yared Halche, executive director of Witness, said it well during a recent LCMS Church Planting roundtable in St. Louis:

"My prayer for all of us is to be excited [about church planting]. The hope of Christ resides in us."

He was one of several district mission leaders talking about how the Synod's approach to church planting is a lay-driven, locally led model, less about finding the "right guy" to parachute into a community and more about equipping the people already there. It's a shift that's picking up steam across the LCMS, and it starts with people willing to say yes to something new.

Not that you needed a national day dedicated to relaxation, a district wellness blog, or a social media post to give you permission to rest. But sometimes we all need a little reminder: slowing down, taking a deep breath, and resting is good for us.

Not just resting from the daily strains of life and emptying the mind to nothing, but filling it with what we know about our God: who He is, what He has done, and the peace we have in Him. Sometimes all we have to do is stare at the sky a little longer to remember His hand in everything.

So read a few pages of that book that's been pushed to the side. Go on a long walk. Call someone who brings you joy. Sit outside (or in the AC) and listen to your favorite album. Sit in prayer. Or just take a deep breath. Just a little reminder that it's good to relax.

Wellness doesn't change what ministry asks of church workers. But it gives us a way to stand in it without being scorched, just like sunscreen. Read the full wellness blog below.
