What life looks like with Nova 🤗💛✨

Nova is a superstar foster dog in our Pen Pals program who is ready to find her forever home.

She is a two-year-old terrier mix with a whole lot of love to give. She’s medium sized and weighs about 35 pounds.

Her handlers at Lawrenceville Correctional Center say that she is athletic and fun-loving. She has excelled in her training program and knows over 15 different cues!

She loves to go on adventures and would be a great running buddy.

Nova is ready to find her family, in return she will give you a million kisses and thousands of cuddles.

Today we are cheering on Kairo.

Kairo is a sweet four-year-old red pittie bravely battling lymphoma.

Her mom told us that she brought Kairo home as a gift to herself for graduating college. She later found out that Kairo was born on the same day she graduated. A coincidence that is nothing short of special.

Kairo is the kindest pup who just wants to sit on your lap and give you kisses. She is a faithful friend and loves her mom dearly.

Thanks to an early detection, Kairo’s prognosis is hopeful, but she has a long road ahead of her. With the help of a grant from FETCH a Cure, Kairo is able to pursue treatment.

🐶 One of our precious pups in our prison foster program needs a new baby gate after their old one broke.

🐾 We’re looking for a generous donor to purchase a new baby gate from our Amazon wishlist (linked in our bio). The baby gate will be sent directly to the foster dog in need.

🍦I’m the perfect pint-sized sidekick for any adventure. I’m full of personality and love to be wherever you are.

🐶 I know what you’re thinking, I’m not just a pretty face; I’m also a total sweetheart. I’ve bonded closely with my handlers at Lawrenceville Correctional Center.

🤗 I’m no velcro dog, but I’m pretty close. If you’re looking for a loyal best friend on four little legs, I’m your guy.

🧡 My handlers will tell you that I am very affectionate and love attention from my humans. One of my handlers said that since fostering me, his blood pressure has gone down. I’m a miracle dog! (Results not guaranteed 😅)

🐾 I’ve loved getting to know everyone at my foster home, but I’m ready to settle down with a family. Will you adopt me?

Through our Pixie’s Pen Pals foster program, inmates at Virginia correctional facilities foster and train dogs to prepare them for adoption. Both the dogs and inmates meet on a weekly basis with a professional dog trainer.

We have two fantastic trainers on our team. Meet our trainers!

Ani Bertot, CPDT-KA:
A Miami native and former NYC/Jersey City resident now living in Richmond, Ani Bertot has trained dogs up, down, and all across the East Coast.

Her dog training is centered on physical wellness and mental rehabilitation via organic behavior training and enriching activities using scent-work, sport skills, adventure hikes, and socialization camps.

Laura Folsom Volle, CPDT-KA:
Laura has her Bachelor’s in Marine Biology and was a marine mammal trainer for 8 years before making the switch to working with dogs and their humans!

 She started training dogs about 6 years ago in NYC, moved to Richmond in 2020, started her own business in 2022 and couldn’t imagine a more fulfilling way to help people in their daily lives.
