Scott’s Addition is the City of Richmond’s fastest growing neighborhood. It's home to a unique mix of apartments and homes, along with locally owned small businesses like restaurants, breweries, retailers, health & fitness studios, and construction and manufacturing companies. Originally, Scott's Addition was part of the Mayo family Plantation. Major General Winfield Scott, a hero of the War of 18

12 and the Mexican War received the property as a dowry when he married Elizabeth Mayo. Throughout the 19th Century, Broad Street was Richmond's primary turnpike and the railroad was a significant part of the area. At the turn of the 20th Century businesses anxiously moved from downtown to Scotts Addition because of the central transportation center served by streetcars, the railroad, and the highways. Binswinger Glass and Curles Neck Dairy were two of the early businesses in the area. "Addition" is a word that was used to describe an addition to the city grid. In the early 20th Century the area was annexed to the City of Richmond. The boundaries of Scott's Addition remain unchanged from its early history. The neighborhood is bounded on the south by Broad Street, on the east by The Boulevard, on the north by the railroad tracks, and on the west by Interstate 195.

Heads up, historic Scott’s Addition: enforcement of time limits for *some* of our on-street parking spots will be reinstated on January 5, 2026. The vast majority of the neighborhood will remain free and unlimited parking (see map in post!) but some high-traffic commercial zones and corridors will see enforcement of existing signage reinstated to encourage parking turnover for our residents, businesses, and visitors.

Questions and comments can be sent to Lynne Lancaster ([email protected]), who has directly assisted our neighborhood with proposed changes, challenges, and unclear signage. Check the City’s Parking Enforcement Map linked in our bio, put in your address, and see what, if any, restrictions near you may be. Always be sure to check signs on the street where you park just to be sure! Also, this does not impact parking decks or other lots in the neighborhood.

We’ll have the chance to host Lynne at our first public meeting in 2026 to talk about neighborhood impacts so far - so join us on February 4th, 2026, at 830AM - we’ll be hosted by the Richmond Triangle Players!

🎨 GSAA is seeking a creative Social Media Marketing & Content Creator to tell the stories of Richmond’s most dynamic neighborhood.

📍 Contract: Compensation up to $3,600 (120 hrs @ $30/hr | approx. ~10 hours per month | opportunity for renewal)
📅 Start: mid-January 2026
🏁 Finish: December 2026
✨ What you’ll do: Create member spotlight posts, highlight neighborhood projects, produce video content, execute email campaigns & more

We’re looking for someone who gets the Greater Scott’s Addition vibe—entrepreneurial, community-focused, and creative. You must have experience with social media storytelling, MailChimp, Canva, and video production preferred.

Hooray - Clay Street is reopening to one lane of traffic today!

🚧 The next phase of construction, which will leave one lane of Clay Street open for travel, will last approximately 3-more weeks.

Once this phase is completed, parking will return on Clay Street, as well as one lane of travel.

Patience is a virtue in Scott’s Addition 🙏🏼
