The Writers' Bloq

The Writers' Bloq The Writing Workshop at the Hazardous Materials Space This meets 6-8pm on Mondays. Come! and bring friends! Currently we meet Mondays from 6-8pm.

This is the page for the weekly writing workshop hosted at the Hazardous Materials Zine Space. We are a group of writers brought together by a desire to continue and improve upon our writing, with the understanding that the act of creation has deep cathartic, radical, and intellectual worth. Our group strives to provide a positive and stimulating atmosphere to encourage everyone to write. Anyone i

s welcome to come and, to that end, the prompt for the next meeting will be posted weekly on our wall!

Sorry for the long radio silence, all. Working in a grocery store around thanksgiving is terrible. Anyway, the prompt for tomorrow is to write about something you have lost and/or gained. Do it!

10/29/2012

Hey everyone! In view of this (potentially) frightening weather I think we may have to skip this week. Bring your fables next week and stay safe!

10/24/2012

Hey all! The prompt for next week is to write a fairy tale/ fable. See ya then!

10/22/2012

Don't forget! Meeting tonight at 6! The prompt, if you don't want to scroll down is simply: Stuck. Also! Review the project idea that we have posted below

So! The Project. I (Conor) would like the group, as a whole, to produce a book-ish length work, composed of individual works by all contributing members strung into a sequence, that I want to actually hand-bind like a book. At the last meeting we sussed out some of the details but we still have some things to sort out.

Here's what we have so far: each contribution should be between 2 and 5 pages long and written in a casual, journal-esque tone but in a voice not the author's own (for examples, read Fernando Pessoa or think about how Borges contemplates how his public persona has become something of a separate identity in Borges y Yo here http://www.sccs.swarthmore.edu/users/00/pwillen1/lit/borg&i.htm)

The unfinished business: we need to decide on a theme/prompt/guiding force to lend cohesion to the work. So far we have suggested: obsession(s), reflection(s), structure(s), object(s), chiaroscuro, Belies, and skeins. What is appealing? Any other suggestions? Try and think on what would allow disparate pieces to seem related by force of the uniting theme.

So! More on that next meeting!

Hey! Bloqheads! The prompt for next week is simply: Stuck.

Also, we had a mellow meeting last night but it allowed us to do some brainstorming on a project I had been contemplating. Longer post on that to follow

10/15/2012

Don't forget! We meet today at 6 (or so)!

10/10/2012

Hey! The prompt for next week is to write a story in reverse. Also! We made zines that have all the writing that you left in the shop- the copy job is bad but we still have a master and it's a good way to get a (semi-legible) copy of everyone's writing! Ask Sean or Conor for one!

10/05/2012

Hey everyone, sorry I got this up so late but the prompt for this coming Monday, the 8th, is to write about a place. Besos!

09/25/2012

Hey! This has been going splendidly! The prompt for next week is to write an origin story (interpreted loosely). Also! Bring in work that you want people to workshop- it's gonna be a day for touching up some of our other stuff!

09/19/2012

The prompt for Monday, September 24, is thus: Describe, in 100 words or less, something else (a literal thing or a less tangible one, any 'thing') without making any direct references to it. Think of this as a practice in allusion.
